W406 - Updating Towbar System Control Unit
(Workshop Service Action)
Vehicle Type:
Cayenne S/Cayenne Turbo
Model Year:
M.Y. 2003 (3) / M.Y. 2004 (4)
Concern:
Towbar system control unit software.
Information:
This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Service Action on certain 2003 and 2004 model year Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo vehicles equipped with the towbar system (ID no. 1D6). Due to faulty software in the towbar system control unit, there is the possibility that the warning message "Check trailer lighting" in the instrument cluster will be activated when the "right direction indicator light" is switched on with simultaneous braking for at least 3 seconds when towing a trailer.
To remedy the situation, a reading must be taken from the towbar system control unit on the status of the program data. Depending on what the program data shows, either the software on the currently installed control unit will have to be updated or the control unit will have to be replaced.
We ask that the above-mentioned procedure be performed on the affected vehicles listed below during the Porsche Owner's next visit to your workshop.
Affected Vehicles:
A total of 4,907 U.S. and 255 Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Service Action.
Very Important!
Not every vehicle in the below listed range may be affected. Use the ranges below as a general guideline. The VIN can be checked in the Porsche e-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open recall campaign. Refer to Attachment "A" to determine if a particular vehicle is eligible for this recall campaign (or service action). Attachment "A" for W406 VINs is an electronic attachment only, and will be accessible via e-DCS Document repository. This attachment will not be available in a printed form and therefore cannot be sent to your dealership location. Also, the VIN can be checked via the VRU (Voice Response System) for any open listing.
