Diagnosis of Variable Camshaft Timing Control

Diagnosis of Variable Camshaft Timing Control

The diagnosis of camshaft control checks the active camshaft angle in relation to the nominal value.

The diagnostic function is only activated if:
- the engine speed lies in a defined range,
- the engine oil temperature lies between its threshold's,
- the time after start is long enough,
- the fault flag of the power stage of the camshaft control is not set, and
- the adaptation between camshaft and crankshaft has been performed.

If the actual camshaft angle differs to the desired camshaft position in a characteristic map in a specified range for more than a certain time, a camshaft positioning (plausibility) fault will be stored.

The diagnostic is active for a certain time in the same way for both adjustment directions, early and late timing.
