Knock Sensor: Service and Repair



Removing And Installing Knock Sensor







CAUTION:
- The precise tightening torque for the knock-sensor screw must be observed, otherwise the knock sensor might not function properly.
- The knock sensors must be aligned so that the sensor housing and cable plug are not touching at any point, as this could impair operation of the knock sensor.

Removing knock sensor
1. Remove intake distributor.
2. Remove cover for coolant regulator (thermostat) and fold it up.
3. Note installation position of the knock sensor and pull off cable plug.







4. Unscrew fastening screw and take the knock sensor out of the crankcase.

Installing knock sensor

NOTE: The knock sensor and the cable plug must be aligned so that they do not touch at any point.

1. Install knock sensor. Ensure that the knock sensors are aligned in accordance with the figures -long arrow shows alignment; short arrow shows fastening screw-.

CAUTION: The precise tightening torque for the knock-sensor screw must be observed, otherwise the knock sensor might not function properly.

2. Tighten fastening screws to 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).
3. Connect cable plug and make sure that the knock sensor is not touching it.







4. Install cover for coolant regulator (thermostat).
5. Install intake distributor.
6. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
