Replacing DME Control Modules Unnecessarily

Vehicle Type:
Cayenne/Cayenne S/Cayenne Turbo

Model Year:
As of '03 (3)

Concern:

Replacing functional DME control modules unnecessarily due to fault codes in the DME fault memory, whose cause is not the DME control module.

Information:

Test have shown that most DME control modules returned under warranty have fault codes in the DME fault memory not related to a DME control unit malfunction, however faults codes related to other components (e.g., secondary-air pumps).

An overview of the DME fault codes where the DME control module is not the cause for the stored fault code or complaint is shown.

The causes for these fault codes must be localized and corrected using troubleshooting procedures according to the Technical Manual, Diagnosis.

The replacement of the DME control module is not a warranty matter in these cases. If it is determined that a DME control module that has been returned under warranty for these unrelated fault codes, the control module will be returned and your account debited.

The fault code overview will be published along with Supplement 14 and 15 for the Cayenne On-Board Diagnosis Manual (OBDII) in September 2004.
