"Check Engine" warning light is activated in instrument cluster.
Information:
This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Service Action on all 2003 and 2004 model year Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo vehicles up to production date May 22, 2004. Due to fault entries in the DME control module, the "Check Engine warning light" is activated in the instrument cluster. The reason for this is a software error in the DME control module. To remedy the situation, program the DME control module with new software version on affected vehicles.
Affected Vehicles:
A total of 26,253 U.S. and 1,467 Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Workshop Service Action.
Very Important! All vehicles in the below listed range may be affected up to production date May 22, 2004. Use the ranges below as a general guideline. Alternatively, the VIN can be checked in the Porsche e-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open Workshop Service Action.
The affected Vehicle Identification Numbers are contained in the VIN Ranges shown.

PIWIS Tester with test software version 3.0/07/2004, part number, 000.721.971.WW.030 or higher.

Caution!
The programming operation must not be interrupted. The electrical system battery must be connected to a suitable battery charger with at least 40 A current rating.
> If there is an interruption due to a voltage drop while programming, malfunctions in the DME control module can occur.
Work Procedure:
Program the DME control module with new software version.
1. Connect charger to the power feed for the electrical system battery in the engine compartment and switch on.
2. Connect the PIWIS Tester with installed test software version 3.0/07/2004 (or higher) to the diagnostic connector and switch it on.
3. Switch on ignition.
4. Program DME control module according to the Workshop Manual, Group 2, Chapter 24 70 19.
5. Switch off the ignition.
6. Switch off and disconnect the PIWIS Tester.
7. Switch off the charger and disconnect.
8. Enter the Workshop Service Action into the Warranty and Maintenance booklet.
