Impact Sensor: Service and Repair



Removing and Installing Sensor for Airbag







NOTE:
- 6 sensors are used for the airbag in the Cayenne.
- The front two sensors are located on the cross member.
- The middle two sensors are located on the floor pan behind the front seats.
- The rear two sensors are located on the rear wheel housing.

Removing airbag sensor

CAUTION:
- Danger of injury and damage to property as a result of incorrect handling of airbag sensors.
- Always observe the safety regulations for handling airbag units.

Remove ignition key.
Before the connector is disconnected from the sensor, always wait for 1 minute before disconnecting the battery.

Removing sensor cross member
Remove the front spoiler.







1. Insert latch -a- in the sensor connector and remove the connector from the sensor.







2. Unscrew the two fastening nuts -A- and remove the sensor.

Removing central sensor
Move front seat all the way forward.







1. Pull carpet forward under the seat and fold up.

NOTE: Accessibility is limited if the carpet is pulled too far back and the carpet edges fear.

2. Insert latch -a- in the sensor connector and remove the connector from the sensor.







3. Unscrew the two fastening nuts -A- and remove the sensor.

Removing sensor wheel housing
Remove the side lining at rear.







1. Insert latch -a- in the sensor connector and remove the connector from the sensor.







2. Unscrew the two fastening nuts -A- and remove the sensor.

Installing airbag sensor

Installing sensor cross member







1. Slide sensor onto the bolts on the cross member.
2. Screw on the fastening nuts -B- and tighten them. Refer to, "Tightening torques".







3. Slide the connector onto the sensor until it clicks into place.

Install the front spoiler.

4. Connect the battery and switch on ignition.
5. Read out the airbag fault memory with the Porsche System Tester.

Installing central sensor







1. Position sensor and screw onto the floor pan with the two fastening screws -B-. Refer to, "Tightening torques".







2. Slide the connector onto the sensor until it clicks into place.
3. Connect the battery and switch on ignition.
4. Read out the airbag fault memory with the Porsche System Tester.

Installing sensor wheel housing







1. Position sensor and screw onto the wheel housing with the two fastening screws -B-. Refer to, "Tightening torques".







2. Slide the connector onto the sensor until it clicks into place.

Install the side lining at rear.

3. Connect the battery and switch on ignition.
4. Read out the airbag fault memory with the Porsche System Tester.
