Removing Cutoff Relay

CAUTION: Danger of injury and damage to property as a result of incorrect handling of cutoff relay.

Remove ignition key. Disconnect the battery and cover battery terminal.

After the battery is disconnected, always wait for 1 minute before disconnecting the cutoff relay plug.







1. Move the front left seat back and up as far as possible. Move the backrest as far forward as possible.
2. Detach the front seat trim "1" towards the front.
3. Fold the carpet sections forward and remove the two fastening screws "2".
4. Fold the seat back as far as possible. With the seat in its folded position, move the seat forward again using the fore-and-aft adjustment.







5. Open the four tension hooks on the battery case cover using a screwdriver.
6. Remove the battery case cover with ventilation channel.







7. Disconnect the negative cable "1" from the battery.







8. Lever out the current distributor cover using a screwdriver "1".







9. Lift electrical plug connection for cutoff relay (yellow plug) from the current distributor box, release "a" and disconnect.







10. Trace cable run and cut tie-wraps as required.







11. Undo the two fastening nuts from cutoff relay.







12. Pull out lead under the positive cables in the current distributor and remove cutoff relay with electrical lead.

Installing Cutoff Relay







1. Lay lead under the positive cables and position cutoff relay in the current distributor.







2. Screw both fastening nuts on the cutoff relay and tighten. Refer to 'Tightening torques'

NOTE: Use new nuts.







3. Fix lead for cutoff relay with three tie-wraps.







4. Make the plug connection, until plug is felt to engage.
5. Engage plug connection in current distributor box.







6. Slide cover of current distributor from front to back and press on until clips lock in place.







7. Connect the negative cable "2". Refer to 'Tightening torques'







8. Replace the battery box cover carefully. The ventilation channel must be mounted properly.
9. Attach the four tension hooks in the battery case cover and close using the screwdriver.







10. Move the seat in its folded position towards the rear and then tip forward.
11. Screw in fastening screws "2". Refer to 'Tightening torques'
12. Clip in front seat trim "1".

Checking Cutoff Relay Operation
1. Connect and switch on the Porsche System Tester.
2. Switch on ignition.
3. Establish communication with the airbag control unit.
4. Read out fault memory: No fault stored.

WARNING:
- Danger of personal injury if the drive link test is carried out when the vehicle is in motion.
- Never carry out the drive link test when the vehicle is in motion.

The following conditions must be observed when carrying out the drive link test:
- The drive link test must always be carried out on a stationary vehicle in a workshop with sufficient commercially available tools. The driver's seat must then be partially removed in order to deactivate the cutoff relay again. Only then can the engine be restarted.

5. Menu - Perform a drive-link test.

NOTE:
When you perform the drive link test:
- The cutoff relay is activated. The cutoff relay must be activated again.
- The hazard warning lights are activated.
- The central locking system is opened.
- Triggering of the airbag units is simulated.







6. To activate the cutoff relay: Press on the coloured areas of the cutoff relay (located in the current distributor).
7. Read out the fault memory for all control units and erase it if necessary.
8. Switch off ignition and disconnect battery.
