Power Steering Fluid Cooler: Service and Repair
Removing and installing cooler for power steeringThe -cooler for the power steering- is at the -cooler module (water cooler, capacitor, automatic transmission fluid cooler, cooler for power steering)-, behind the front spoiler.
Removal
Caution! Damage can result from Pentosin CHF 11 S getting onto the surrounding area (e.g. onto the coolant hoses) when the oil coolant hoses are released (opened)!
^ Collect any emerging Pentosin.
^ Wear protective goggles when carrying out overhead work on lines with Pentosin!
^ Wear protective gloves!
^ If coolant hoses come into contact with Pentosin, thoroughly clean them with water IMMEDIATELY!
^ Replace visibly swollen coolant hoses!
- Jack the vehicle and raise at the prescribed support points.
- Remove front bottom guard.
- Remove front spoiler.
1. Remove side air guides and the air guide at the top.
2. The bottom air guide does not have to be removed. Remove retaining bracket (front spoiler bottom guard) and move the bumper into the service position.
3. Use an appropriate collecting bottle for any Pentosin which runs out. Release hoses from oil cooler and close with suitable plugs. Remove the oil cooler mount, only screwed on the left-hand side.
4. Remove cooler module mounts on left and right. Then unclip the oil cooler from the mount .
5. Carefully pull the -retaining frame for the water cooler- forwards.
6. Carefully push the cooler module back. Pull the -cooler for power steering- out between the cooler module and the retaining frame for the water cooler.
Installation
Caution! Danger of damage to property if too much Pentosin CHF 11 S is filled or if Pentosin comes into contact with the coolant hoses when filling or topping up!
^ Observe the following specifications in order to avoid overfilling and thus overflowing!
^ Multiple steering operations (maneuvering) with the engine switched off change the fluid level in the reservoir! In this case, the engine must be run for approximately 20 seconds immediately prior to the fluid level check!
^ If coolant hoses come into contact with Pentosin, thoroughly clean them with water IMMEDIATELY!
^ Replace visibly swollen coolant hoses!
1. Push the -cooler for power steering- in between the cooler module and the retaining frame for the water cooler.
2. Push oil cooler into mount .
3. Clip oil cooler into mount . Make sure it is positioned correctly.
4. Install fastening screw, connect oil cooler hoses and install securing clamps. The oil cooler hoses must not be turned in the process.
5. Together with bottom air guide, move bumper out of service position and into normal position.
6. Install top air guide and side air guides.
- Install front spoiler.
- Install bottom guard.
- Fill Pentosin and bleed steering.
