Removing and installing steering column sealing bellows (steering column removed)

Note!
^ The steering column must be removed in order to remove and install the sealing bellows.
^ To do this, the catalytic converter on the side of the steering column must be removed.
^ Ensure thorough cleanliness when the steering intermediate shaft is separated. The grease on the individual parts must not be wiped off. If stored for extended periods, make sure to protect the individual parts from dust and dirt in an appropriate manner.

Removal
1. Remove the steering column.





2. The two parts of the steering intermediate shaft must be marked for assembly -coloured dots-. This ensures that the two pieces are not installed incorrectly.





3. Disconnect the steering column on the steering intermediate shaft. The lower steering shaft can be pulled away from the top steering shaft with a quick pull.
4. Remove the steering column sealing bellows.

Installation

Note!
^ Steering columns must only be replaced as a complete unit. They cannot be disassembled in order to replace individual components.
^ Carry out a visual inspection of all parts.
^ Pay attention to cleanliness.
^ Use the prescribed lubricant on the sliding part. This lubricant is available under the following part numbers: Container volume: One 10-gram tube = 000.043.205.44!
^ Use the prescribed lubricant on the storage sleeve contact point to the sliding ring of the seal. This lubricant is available under the following part numbers: Container volume: One 10-gram tube = 000.043.205.44!





^ Fit both parts of the steering column together using the previously applied -colour markings-.
^ The lower steering shaft be able to move smoothly and without catching on the upper steering shaft..

1. Fit the steering column sealing bellows in the correct position.





2. Push the lower steering shaft onto the upper steering shaft. Relieve any pressure with a sharp pull.
