Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Part 2

4.3.1 Press socket contact of RD/YE 2.5 (2) line out of the 8-pin connector (chamber 4) using press-out tool 88044.

4.3.2 Cut socket contact. Strip the lines.

4.3.3 Join RD 0.5(2) line (retrofit kit) and RD/YE 2.5(2) line and crimp together with a new socket contact --> Figure 16 -A-.

NOTE:
Ensure socket contact is seated securely.

4.3.4 Insert socket contact into chamber 4 of the 8-pin connector.

4.4 Connect BN 0.5(2) line (retrofit kit) to BN 2.5(2) line (term. 31; chamber 8) and WH 0.5(2) line (retrofit kit) to WH 0.5(2) line (antenna output terminal, chamber 5) as described in Step 4.2.

4.5 Lock secondary lock on the 8-pin connector.

5 Route standard antenna line from the diversity control unit --> Figure 17 -A-.

-->Figure 17 top: Standard routing

-->Figure 17 bottom: new routing

6 Install control unit.

6.1 Loosen protective film --> Figure 18 -arrow- on the control unit.

ATTENTION:
Using unsuitable tools

- Risk of serious or irreparable damage to the control unit.

--> Use a small screwdriver or another suitable tool to actuate the Dual Inline Package switches (DIP switches).

--> Actuate DIP switches carefully, without slipping, using only slight force.

6.2 Configure the control unit.

NOTE:
The frequency range was identified in Step 1.2.

6.2.1 Overview of DIP switch settings

NOTE:
To ensure that the control unit works perfectly, the DIP switches must be set as shown in the table above, depending on the frequency band of the PCM/car radio used.

The four DIP switches are set to the "RoW" position, i.e. the four DIP switches are set to "ON".

If the identified frequency range of the PCM/car radio is not listed in the table, the DIP switch setting that is within the PCM/car radio frequency range must be selected.

For example: Identified PCM frequency range is 87.5 - 107.9 MHz --> DIP switch setting for 87.7 - 107.9 MHz must be selected.

6.2.2 Set the four DIP switches as described in the table above.

NOTE:
Figure 19 shows the DIP switch settings for the frequency range 87.7 - 107.9 MHz as an example.

The DIP switches are arranged from the left (DIP switch 4) to right (DIP switch 1), starting from the connection side of the control unit (Figure 19 -A-).

6.3 Stick loosened protective film on the control unit.

NOTE:
Do not confuse antenna connectors because if you do, there is no guarantee that the music player interface will function correctly.

6.4 Connect standard antenna connector from diversity control unit (angled) --> Figure 20 -D- and antenna connector (straight) from the antenna line (retrofit kit) --> Figure 20 -C- to the control unit --> Figure 20 -A-.

Plug in wire harness connector --> Figure 20 -B- and tighten locking screws.

6.5 Pull protective film off the adhesive tape on the control unit --> Figure 21 -A-.

6.6 Stick control unit --> Figure 22 -A- to the dashboard trim panel at the middle right --> Figure 22 -arrow-.

6.7 Wind up the rest of the wire harness (retrofit kit) and use a tie-wrap --> Figure 23 -B- to secure it to the dashboard bracket --> Figure 23 -A-.

7 Concluding work

7.1 Install device carrier.

7.1.1 Insert device carrier --> Figure 24 -A-.

7.1.2 Connect connector --> Figure 24 -C-.

7.1.3 Slide in device carrier and tighten screws --> Figure 24 -B-.

7.2 Install front ashtray. --> Workshop Manual '682019 Removing and installing front ashtray'

7.3 Install front air-conditioning system regulator. --> Workshop Manual '870219 Removing and installing front air-conditioning system regulator'

7.4 Install center console cover. --> Workshop Manual '681919 Removing and installing cover for centre console'

7.5 Connect the battery. --> Workshop Manual '90001N00 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery'

7.6 Install PCM --> Workshop Manual '911019 Removing and installing display and operator control unit (PCM2)' or

Install car radio. --> Workshop Manual '91241900 Removing and installing car radio'

7.7 Switch on PCM or car radio.

NOTE:
When using the "Autostore" function (AS memory level), the station with the RDS code "AUX" cannot be displayed correctly in memory fields 0-9.

Actuate the search button until the station with the RDS code "AUX" for the music player interface is displayed.

Store the station with the RDS code "AUX" to any memory location in memory level A or B as required (depending on the car radio used, see relevant operating instructions).

7.8 Read out the fault memory of all systems, correct any existing faults, and erase the fault memory.

7.9 Disconnect battery charger. --> Workshop Manual '2XOOIN01 Battery trickle charging'
