Measure:
In the event of a complaint the modified Tiptronic control unit is to be installed. See work procedure.

Work Procedure:

1. Procuring a replacement Tiptronic control unit.

1.1 Before ordering a replacement for the Tiptronic control unit, determine the vehicle VIN, and, using the PIWIS Tester - read out the software version of the installed Tiptronic control unit.

1.1.1 Procedure for reading out the software version:

Using the PIWIS Tester select > Tiptronic control unit > Identification > Extended Identification > SW version (= 4-digit number).

1.2 Using this data, determine the part number on the "Overview of Part Numbers" to order the required Tiptronic control unit

Note:
The overviews also clarify if the DME software must be updated because of the modified Tiptronic software (> DME: yes/no).

2. Installing the modified Tiptronic control unit.

2.1 Before removing the previous Tiptronic control unit, read out the coding from the control unit; > POSES, Workshop Manual, Cayenne, Gr. 3, 37 30 19 - Removing and installing the Tiptronic control unit.

2.2 Install the modified Tiptronic control unit.

Note:
The current software version No. (4-digit number) can be seen on the control unit (Figure 1, inset).

2.3 If the DME software must be updated, continue > Step 3. If not, continue > Step 4.

3. Programming the DME control module (See Overview: DME YES).

3.1 Programming the control unit only affects Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo M.Y. '03 and '04.

3.2 Before installing the DME software, check the version No. of the current software in the DME control module.

Note:
It is possible that the software was already updated and thus it would not be necessary to change it.

3.2.1 Procedure for reading out the software version:

Required tester and software version: as of PIWIS 3.0.

Using the PIWIS Tester select > DME control module > Identification > Extended identification > SW version.

3.3 If one of the following listed version numbers is displayed in the PIWIS Tester under "SW version"

(= software version), the DME control module must be programmed.

Cayenne S: 0009, 0010, 0011, 0013, 0014, 0017, 0018, 0019, 0042, 0044, 0051, 0052, XXXR.

Cayenne Turbo: 0007, 0008, 0012, 0015, 0016, 0020, 0021, 0022, 0043, 0047, 0068, 0072, XXXS, XXXT

Continue with Step 3.5.

3.4 If version numbers other than those listed under Step 3.3 are displayed under "SW version", DME programming is not required.

Continue with Step 4.

3.5 Procedure for programming the DME control module:

Required tester and software version: as of PIWIS 3.0

Procedure see POSES, Workshop Manual, Cayenne, Gr. 2, 24 70 19 - Removing and installing DME control module.

Note:
In order to program the data record, select "Up to M.Y. 04".

3.6 After programming the DME, execute the Kick down adaptation. Procedure see POSES, Workshop Manual, Cayenne, Gr. 2, 24 70 19 - Removing and installing DME control module.
