Eliminating Symptoms On Body Exterior: Reworking Wiper Shaft

General information
Symptom
The rear wiper does not wipe the upper area of the rear window properly.
Causes and remedial action
Cause
On vehicles with heat-insulating laminated glass (I-no. PJ1), spacers fitted at the wiper shaft attachment points can reduce the contact pressure of the rear wiper, thereby resulting in an unsatisfactory wiper function.
Remedial action
In the event of a complaint, remove the spacers between the wiper shaft and rear lid.


Preliminary work
1. Check wiper blade for signs of damage or deformation.
2. Replace wiper blade if damaged or deformed.
3. Check wiper function.
3.1. Spray outside of rear window completely with water.






3.2. Switch on ignition, actuate the wiper for the rear window wiper system and check the wiper function.
3.3. If the wiper function is OK, end of remedial action.
4. Remove wiper arm for rear window wiper system. REFER TO 92411900 Removing and installing wiper arm for rear window wiper system - section on "Removing"


Reworking wiper shaft
1. Open rear window.






2. Carefully unclip cover using a plastic wedge -arrows A- and remove it -arrow B- .






3. Unscrew fastening nut -1- ( -arrow- ).






4. Unscrew fastening nuts -2- and remove wiper shaft -1- ( -arrow- ).
5. Remove spacers -3- and dispose of them.






6. Fit wiper shaft -1- ( -arrow- ) and secure in place with the fastening nuts -2- .
Tightening torque: 7.2 Nm (5 ftlb.)+/-0.7 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb)






7. Tighten fastening nut -1- ( -arrow- ).
Tightening torque: 17 Nm (13 ftlb.)






8. Clip in cover -arrow- .
9. Install wiper arm for rear window wiper system. REFER TO 92411900 Removing and installing wiper arm for rear window wiper system - section on "Installing"
