Removing Turbocharger

The engine must be removed for this task.

Cylinder bank 1 - 4

1. Remove engine.
2. Remove main catalytic converters.






3. Pull off hose on control box for bypass flap. If the line is stuck, lever it off carefully using a screwdriver. Then pull off the control pressure line on the turbocharger. To do this, carefully insert a small screwdriver into the metal ring and open the ring.

4. Remove coolant inlet. To do this, open the spring band clamp on the coolant line over the coolant distribution pipe and pull this off.







5. The position of all fastening clamps should be marked by a felt tip pen for additional assembly work.







6. Undo the four fastening clamps on the coolant inlet line.







7. Undo sheetmetal holder on oil inlet line. To do this, undo the fastening nut (M6).







8. Undo oil inlet line on camshaft housing.







9. Undo vent line on the oil collection container and lay it to one side.







10. Disconnect the coolant return line beside the generator. To do this, remove the spring band clamp and pull off the rubber line. Undo the fastening screw on the holding clamp.







11. Undo oil return line on the oil filter bracket.







12. Remove turbocharger holder. To do this, loosen the two upper fastening screws. Then undo the lower screw and remove the holder.







NOTE:
- Pay attention to the connection points for the lines when removing the turbocharger.
- If the two lines that are still screwed onto the turbocharger are undone, their installation position must be marked before the lines are undone. The lines must be free of tension for the reinstallation and must not be bent.

13. Remove turbocharger. To do this, undo the three fastening screws and remove the turbocharger.







Cylinder bank 5 - 8

1. Remove engine.
2. Remove main catalytic converters.
3. Pull off hose on control box for bypass flap. If the line is stuck, lever it off carefully using a screwdriver. Then pull off the recirculating air line. Do this by pressing the button on the left and right of the flange and then pulling off the line.







4. Mark the position of the (three) line holders with a felt tip pen and undo them.

5. Undo the upper oil line on the oil tank and lay it to one side.







6. Remove coolant line between turbocharger and coolant distribution pipe. To do this, undo the line on the turbocharger and then on the coolant distribution pipe.







7. Undo the upper coolant line on the turbocharger and lay it to one side.







8. Undo oil inlet line on camshaft housing. Undo the sheetmetal holder.







9. Undo the left oil suction line and pull it out slightly.







10. Remove turbocharger support. To do this, undo the screw on the turbocharger and loosen the two fastening screws on the camshaft housing. Remove the holder.







11. Remove turbocharger. To do this, undo the three fastening screws and pull out the turbocharger at the side. The seal between the manifold and the turbocharger must not be reused.







NOTE: If the two lines that are still screwed onto the turbocharger are undone, their installation position must be marked before the lines are undone. The lines must be free of tension for the reinstallation and must not be bent.
