Removing and Exchanging Replacement Transmissioncentering
Removing and refitting transmissionNote:
^ The adaptation values must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced.
Tools
Removing transmission
1. Unscrew two screws on the underside of the converter bell housing in the installed transmission.
2. Remove engine
Note: Shift lever on transmission is in position D. Move lever down fully.
3. Unscrew bolts on the cardan shaft on the transfer box. Counter with special tool arm bracket 3435 on triangular flange -A- .
Note:
^ The line connections on the transmission and the ends of the ATF lines should be closed off after the lines have been separated from the transmission!
4. Disconnect ATF lines from the transmission. To do this, unscrew screw and remove lines.
5. Release bleeder lines from the retainers on the engine.
6. Removing catalytic converter on left side:
Cayenne S
^ Remove screw connections on exhaust manifold.
Cayenne Turbo
^ Remove flange screw connections on exhaust manifold.
7. Release catalytic converter holder on the transmission cross member.
8. Remove catalytic converter holder and take out exhaust system.
9. Remove reference mark sender on converter bell housing.
10. Unscrew two coolant pipe screws on converter bell housing.
Note: A second fitter is required!
11. Remove converter bolts:
^ Turn crankshaft clockwise with special tool socket wrench 9714.
^ Insert special tool dowel pin 9595 into the opening on the converter bell housing and hold upwards with light pressure until it engages when the crankshaft is turned.
^ Insert special tool Torx bit 9688 through opening in the engine block on converter screw. Position special tool plug-in part 9687.
^ Unscrew converter screw and twist out.
^ Carry out the procedures described earlier for the other five screws.
12. Attach transmission with holder suspension device 2024 A on workshop crane.
13. Raise transmission a few centimeters and notch transmission cross member-B-.
14. Unscrew engine transmission flange screws and two screws on the underside.
15. Remove transmission from engine.
Refitting transmission
1. Fix engine with special tool dowel pins 9595/1 to the crankshaft.
2. Attach transmission with holder suspension device 2024 A on workshop crane.
3. Insert special tool centering pin 9689 in converter.
4. Fit the transmission onto the engine.
5. Tighten engine transmission flange screws
Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)
Note: Screws which are tightened with a torque angle must be replaced with new ones.
6. Raise transmission a few centimeters and install transmission cross member on holder -B- .
Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) + 90° torque angle
7. Disassemble workshop crane and holder suspension device 2024 A.
8. Remove special tool centering pin 9689 through opening in the engine block.
Note:
^ A second fitter is required.
^ Replace converser screws.
9. Screw in new converter screws:
^ Place screw on special tool Torx bit 9688 and screw in screw.
^ Turn crankshaft clockwise with special tool socket wrench 9714.
^ Insert special tool dowel pin 9595 into the opening on the converter bell housing and hold with light pressure until it engages when the crankshaft is turned. This sets the position for the next screw.
^ Carry out the procedures described earlier for the other five screws.
Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.)
10. Fasten coolant pipe onto converter bell housing.
11. Install reference mark sender on the converter bell housing.
12. Install catalytic converters on left side:
Cayenne S
^ Install catalytic converter triangular flange screw connections on exhaust manifold.
Cayenne Turbo
^ Install flange screw connections on exhaust manifold.
13. Install catalytic converter holder.
14. Screw exhaust system holder bolts onto body.
Tightening torques of all exhaust system components: 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
15. Clip bleeder lines in the retainers on the engine.
16. Fasten ATF lines on the transmission.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lbs.)
Note:
^ Since locking is not possible after removal, the cardan shaft can only be tightened with torque after the engine has been installed.
^ Screws which are tightened with a torque angle must be replaced with new ones.
17. Fix cardan shaft with new screws to the transfer box.
18. Install engine.
19. Tighten cardan shaft bolts.
Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) + 90° torque angle
Note:
^ The adaptation values must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced.
20. Unscrew ATF control screw -A- and fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.
21. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
