Eliminating Noise Symptoms - Reworking Hood Frame (Slide)

General information

Symptom

Creaking noises from around the B-pillar (left side of vehicle) when opening the hood.

Causes and remedial action

Cause

Creaking noises can be heard when opening the hood due to a mould removal burr on the slide (in the leaf spring sealing surface area).

Remedial action

In the event of a complaint, the mould removal burr must be scraped off on vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction October 2007. Then coat the sealing surface with Krytox.

Reworking hood frame

Reworking slide

1. Move hood to service position.







1.1. Switch on ignition.
1.2. Unlock hood and raise hood compartment lid to its top position.
1.3. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

2. Pull out tightening strip -1- slightly -arrow A- and attach at the top to the cross strut of the main folding top bow -2- (-arrow B-).







3. Perform a visual inspection of the main folding top bow.
3.1. Check the main folding top bow -1- to see if there is already some Teflon tape -2- or felt strips -3- affixed close to the tightening strip.







3.1.1. If there is no Teflon or felt tape affixed: Rework the main folding top bow. Refer to Eliminating noise symptoms - Reworking hood frame.
3.1.2. If there is Teflon tape affixed: Rework the main folding top bow. Refer to Eliminating noise symptoms - Reworking hood frame.
3.1.3. If there are felt strips affixed: Carry out Steps 4 to 7.

4. Scrape off contact surface (mould removal burr) -arrows- between the slider -1- and leaf spring -2- from above using a ripping chisel or screwdriver.







5. Lubricate the contact surface between the slide -1- and leaf spring -2- in the marked area with Krytox.







6. Disengage tightening strip -1- (-arrow-).







7. End hood service position.
7.1. Switch on ignition and move hood electrically to its original position.
7.2. Switch off ignition.
