701949 Eliminating Noise Symptoms - Reworking Trim Panel Under Dashboard

General information

Symptoms
Creaking noises from around the trim panel under the dashboard.

Causes and remedial action
Creaking noises can be caused by relative movements between the centring journals of the trim panel under the dashboard and the dashboard.

In the event of a complaint, grommets must be fitted on the centring journals to remedy the situation on vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction September 2005. The footwell light and diagnostic connector must also be checked to ensure that they are seated securely.

997.552.821.00 Grommet
999.551.196.40 raschel tape

Preliminary work
Release trim panel under the dashboard and let it hang down. Refer to Removing and installing trim panel under dashboard

Reworking trim panel under dashboard
1. Fit grommets on the centring journals of the trim panel under the dashboard.






2. Check diagnostic connector to ensure that it is seated securely and secure it with raschel tape if necessary.






3. Check sheet metal panel on footwell light to ensure that it is seated securely and press in sheet metal panel if necessary.






Subsequent work
Install trim panel under dashboard. Refer to Removing and installing trim panel under dashboard
