G 8.2 Painting Rims

G 8.2.1 Basic procedure for painting rims

WARNING: -> 2 "Safety regulations" and read the product-specific safety instructions on the container labels.

NOTE: The topcoat paint color required for painting the rims can be found in -> 3.3.1 "Paint colors for series paint finish on rims".

G 8.2.1.1 Phase I - Preparing the rim







G 8.2.1.2 Phase II - Primer

Step 1: Prime exposed metal with Glasurit(R) HS VOC Thermo Primer Filler 285-16 VOC







Step 2: For uneven surfaces, fill with Glasurit(R) HS VOC Primer Filler 285-51 VOC (or 285-60 VOC, 285-95 VOC)







Step 3: Sand primer or primer filler

G 8.2.2 Painting magnesium rims

WARNING:
- Damage and possible injury due to improper repair of paint damage to magnesium rims.
- Improper repairs to magnesium rims can result in corrosion, which could reduce the operating strength and possibly lead to a broken rim.
- Replace the rims if there are any defects due to corrosion.


NOTE:
- We recommend the following procedure for repairing paint damage to vehicle rims: If one of the following conditions is met, the rim should be replaced:
- Paint damage down to the base material in the area of the rim spokes, particularly in the section between the rim flange and spokes.
- Corrosion defects in the area of the rim spokes, particularly in the section between the rim flange and spokes.

- Paint damage that extends to the base material may only be repaired on the outer part of the rim flange.
- Always avoid areas sanded through to the base material.
- Surface painting is permitted after Level 2. The topcoat build-up corresponds to the procedure. -> G 8.2.3 "Painting 993 Turbo S/Carrera GT rims".







NOTE: It is not possible to remedy damage to deeper surface layers using equipment available in the workshop. It may be possible to re-coat the surface of the rim.

NOTE: The topcoat paint color required for painting the rims can be found in -> 3.3.1 "Paint colors for series paint finish on rims".

Step 1: Apply base color







Step 2: Apply Glasurit(R) MS Clear 923-155 (use as VOC system 923-35)







Step 3: Apply metal gloss effect paint (CETELON DECOR SILVER)







G 8.2.3.4 Phase IV - Clear lacquer finish







G 8.2.4 Painting 996 Millennium rims

WARNING: -> 2 "Safety regulations" and read the product-specific safety instructions on the container labels.

NOTE:
- The Millennium wheels are subjected as standard to a complex surface treatment process.
- The possibility for repair is limited to repairing the surface paint finish of the rims with clear lacquer.
- It is not possible to remedy damage to deeper surface layers using equipment available in the workshop. It may be possible to re-coat the surface of the rim.
