Removing And Installing Primary Catalytic Converter - Cayenne Turbo

Preliminary work

Preliminary work for removing primary catalytic converter, cylinder bank 1 - 4
1. Remove wheel.
2. Remove engine compartment cover above the oxygen sensor connectors.
3. Remove main catalytic converter.

Preliminary work for removing primary catalytic converter, cylinder bank 5 -8
1. Remove engine compartment cover above the oxygen sensor connectors.
2. Remove main catalytic converter.

Removing primary catalytic converter

ATTENTION:
Danger of burns from hot exhaust system
- Do not remove the exhaust system until it has cooled down.
- Wear protective gloves.

NOTE: Please read the most important working regulations and warning notes.

1. Disconnect the two oxygen sensor connectors (black) at right of water splash panel and unclip cable from supports.

NOTE: Spray all fastening nuts on primary catalytic converter with penetrating oil and allow to work in.

2. Unscrew hexagon-head bolt of side bracket for catalytic converter -arrow-. To do this, use a slim ratchet with fine toothing.

3. Carefully pull the oxygen sensor down.

NOTE:
- To loosen and tighten fastening nuts on flange of turbocharger, several extensions and joints must be used.
- Good lighting and a mirror make removal and fitting easier at places very difficult to reach.

4. Loosen the five fastening nuts for the turbocharger.

5. Remove primary catalytic converter. To do this, carefully rotate and pull the primary catalytic converter.
6. Remove and replace flange gaskets.

4. Loosen the five fastening nuts for the turbocharger.

5. Remove primary catalytic converter. To do this, carefully rotate and pull the primary catalytic converter; if necessary, move the steering and pull the primary catalytic converter past.
6. Remove and replace flange gasket.

Installing primary catalytic converter

Installing primary catalytic converter, cylinder bank 1 - 4

NOTE:
- Observe the most important working regulations and warning notes.
- Metal seals and self-locking nuts and bolts must always be replaced.
- Ensure sealing faces of exhaust system are clean.

1. Replace flange gasket and push over the studs.
2. Place primary catalytic converter on the studs of the turbocharger. To do this, carefully rotate and push the primary catalytic converter into the installation position.

3. Position hexagon-head bolt of side bracket for catalytic converter. To do this, use a slim ratchet with fine toothing.

NOTE:
- To loosen and tighten fastening nuts on flange of turbocharger, several extensions and joints must be used.
- Good lighting and a mirror make removal and fitting easier at places very difficult to reach.

4. Position new self-locking nuts at the connection points of the catalytic converter and tighten to the specified tightening torque. Tightening torque: 17 ftlb.
5. Tighten hexagon-head bolt of side bracket for catalytic converter to the specified tightening torque. To do this, use a slim ratchet with fine toothing. Tightening torque: 17 ftlb.

ATTENTION:
Danger of fire and material damage.
- Lay the oxygen sensor cable so that it cannot touch the exhaust manifold.

6. Lay the oxygen sensor cable upwards so that it cannot touch the exhaust manifold or the exhaust system and clip it in. A useful aid here is a wire with a hook.
7. Connect together the two oxygen sensor connectors at the water splash panel and clip cable into supports.
