Removing and installing line for ATF cooling

Preliminary work for line for ATF cooling

1. Remove front cardan shaft.
2. Remove engine carrier.

Removing line for ATF cooling





Overview of ATF line

1. Place collecting pan underneath the vehicle.

WARNING: Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF
-> Allow ATF to cool down
-> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)


2. Unscrew fastening screw -arrow- which fastens ATF line to the ATF thermostat and remove line.

3. Unscrew ATF line screw connection to engine oil pan and to transmission.

WARNING: Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF
-> Allow ATF to cool down
-> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)


4. Unscrew fastening screw securing ATF line to transmission -arrow and remove lines.

5. Remove ATF line.

Overview of ATF line





1. Unscrew fastening screws on front spoiler -arrows-.

2. Remove front transverse strut. To do this, unscrew four screws -arrows-.

3. Unscrew fastening screws which fastens ATF line to the engine.
4. Unscrew fastening screw which fastens ATF line to the transmission bellhousing.
5. Place collecting pan underneath the vehicle.

WARNING: Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF
-> Allow ATF to cool down
-> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)


6. Unscrew fastening screw securing ATF line to transmission -arrow and remove lines.

ATF line screw to thermostat

WARNING: Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF
-> Allow ATF to cool down
-> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)


7. Unscrew fastening screw securing ATF line to ATF thermostat -arrow- and remove lines.





Oil level sensor/ventilation on final four-wheel drive

8. Pull off oil-level sensor cable plug -2-.

9. Pull bleeder line off final all-wheel drive -1-.

10. Remove ATF line in direction of travel.

Installing line for ATF cooling





Overview of ATF line

1. Install ATF line.
2. Screw in ATF line screw connection to engine oil pan Tightening torque 7.5 ft. lbs. and to transmission bell housing Tightening torque 7.5 ft. lbs..





ATF line to ATF filter

3. Screw in fastening screw -arrow- which fastens ATF line to ATF thermostat. Tightening torque 7.5 ft. lbs.





ATF line to transmission

4. Screw in fastening screw for securing ATF line to transmission -arrow-. Tightening torque 19 ft. lbs.





5. Unscrew ATF control screw -A- and fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.

Check screw and oil drain plug

6. Screw in ATF control screw with a new sealing ring. Tightening torque 52 ft. lbs.

Overview of ATF line

1. Install ATF line.





2. Push on oil-level sensor cable plug -2-.

Oil level sensor/ventilation on final four-wheel drive
3. Push bleeder line onto final all-wheel drive -1-.





ATF line screw to thermostat

4. Screw in fastening screw which fastens ATF line to ATF thermostat -arrow-. Tightening torque 7.5 ft. lbs.





ATF line to transmission

5. Screw in fastening screw for securing ATF line to transmission -arrow-. Tightening torque 19 ft. lbs.

6. Screw in fastening screw for securing ATF line to transmission bell housing. Tightening torque 7.5 ft. lbs.
7. Screw in fastening screws which fastens ATF line to the engine. Tightening torque 7.5 ft. lbs.





Front transverse strut

8. Install front transverse strut. To do this, screw in four screws -arrows-. Tightening torque 17 ft. lbs.

9. Screw in front apron fastening screws -arrows-.





10. Unscrew ATF control screw -A- and fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube. Check screw and oil drain plug
11. Screw in ATF control screw with a new sealing ring. Tightening torque 52 ft. lbs.

Subsequent work
Reworking for line for ATF cooling
1. Install engine carrier.
2. Install front cardan shaft..
3. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
4. Fit engine guard.
