Symptoms

Noises in the rear lid area.

Causes and remedial action

Noises may occur due to the balancing weight being excited because of different chassis settings.

In the event of a complaint, this problem must be remedied by reworking the balancing weight using a repair kit.

Preliminary work

1. Remove trim panel for rear lid.

1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove balancing weight -2- from the rear lid -3- ( -arrow- ).

2. Drill off buffer stops -1- on the balancing weight -2- using a 10 mm drill bit. The rotational speed for this step should be approx. 250 rpm.

3. Stick foam rubber rings (4 x dia. 60 mm) -1- onto the drilled-off buffer stops -2-.

4. Stick foam rubber rings (2 x dia. 50 mm) -1- onto the stops on the rear lid -2- in the area of the balancing weight threaded joint.

5. Stick on washers.

5.1. Stick washers M6 -1- onto the bottom of the rubber mountings -2- using a commercially available adhesive.
5.2. Stick washers M10 -3- onto the top of the rubber mountings.
6. Stick buffer stops -1- onto the top washer -2-.

Information

Coat the fastening screws with Loctite 241 screw-locking lacquer.

Information

When screwing on the balancing weight for the rear lid, use an open-ended wrench on the buffer stops to prevent them from turning.

7. Position balancing weight -2- on the rear lid -3- and secure with the fastening screws -1-. -> Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7 ftlb.)
