Removing and installing sealing ring for cardan flange





Preliminary work

Danger
Vehicle raised incorrectly.
Danger of fatal injury or material damage should the vehicle fall down.

- Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

1. Jack and raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
2. Install underbody panelling.
3. Remove the cardan shaft.
4. Remove cardan flange.
5. Place oil collection pan under the transmission.

Removing sealing ring for cardan flange

1. Remove sealing ring for cardan flange.
1.1. Make a hole in the sealing ring using a suitable tool, e.g. a pointed drift.

1.2. Screw a tapping screw approx. 1 cm into the sealing ring.

1.3. Tap out the sealing ring on the screw using slide hammer kit NR.168.

Installing sealing ring for cardan flange

1. Install sealing ring for cardan flange.
1.1. Fill the space between the dust and sealing lips -arrow- on the new sealing ring with grease, e.g. Liqui-Moly.

1.2. Tap sealing ring into the transmission as far as the mounting face using pressure piece 9790.

Subsequent work

1. Install the cardan flange.
2. Install the cardan shaft.
3. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
4. Install underbody panelling.
5. Lower the vehicle.
