Bodyshell

Bodyshell

The bodyshell of the new 911 Targa 4/4S corresponds below the window line to the 'wide body' shape of the four-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 Coupes. The side panels, which are -> length: 22 mm wider on both sides in the rear area, and the adapted rear and side skirts are characteristic of this body shape.

The bodyshell is still executed as a light-weight design with high strength and ultra-high strength steel. Despite the glass roof assembly and the additional body reinforcements, the new 911 Targa 4 weighs only -> mass: 1510 kg while the Targa 4S weighs -> mass: 1535 kg (DIN empty weight with manual transmission).

The roof assembly is bolted to the structurally optimised and higher-strength bodyshell all the way around and is therefore joined securely to the base bodyshell. Gusset plates connect the roof structure to the adopted 911 Carrera 4 Coupe base.

Together with the -> length: 30 mm thick, high-strength steel reinforcement pipes, which are integrated in the A-pillar and in the roof pillars, excellent body rigidity is achieved that is almost on a par with the high level seen on the Coupe models. The B-pillar goes from the body side panel to the roof pillar, where it is welded in.

The roof pillars form a continuous line from the A-pillar to the end of the C-pillar - with no gaps or connection points whatsoever.
