Glass Sliding Roof
Glass Sliding Roof
The glass sliding roof on the new 911 Targa 4/4S is made of -> length: 6.3 mm thick partially prestressed laminated safety glass. The glass is -> length: 1.15 mm thinner (996: -> length: 7.45 mm ) compared to the previous model (996), thereby saving approx. -> mass: 1.9 kg in space. This reduced weight in the roof area results in a lower centre of gravity and increases anti-rolling stability compared to the previous model (996).
The use of tinted sun-protection glass ensures that the passenger compartment does not heat up any more than in a Coupe in intense sunshine despite all the glass. When the air conditioning is on, pleasant interior air conditioning is possible even at outside temperatures of significantly more than -> temperature: 30 °C.
The glass light transmittance value of -> control value: 31.2 % guarantees a bright, light-immersed interior and gives the unmistakable Targa interior feeling even with the roof closed. Only when very intense rays of sunlight are streaming into the vehicle is it necessary to pull down the blind to reinforce the heat-insulating effect of the glass. It also absorbs UV rays.
The glass roof is secured to the retaining frame with ten screws.
Spacer sleeves -1- inserted at the mounting points guarantee the required gaps between adjacent components. The length of the spacer sleeves varies from -> length: 11 to 15 mm.
Front mounting unit
The front mounting unit comprises the mounting plate -1- with guide bushing -2-, the front mounting slide -3- and the mounting bracket -4-. The drive cable -5- is inserted into the mounting slide with the connection.
The guide bushing is fitted in the gate link track. The mounting function is started when the holder is pushed up due to the shape of the gate link track when closing. When opening the glass sliding roof, the guide in the gate link track lowers and opens the sliding roof.
The sliding blocks -6-, which are pushed down in the gate guide, are attached at the sides of the mounting slide. The mounting plate is bolted to the frame for the glass sliding roof.
Rear mounting unit
The rear mounting unit comprises the rear mounting slide -1-, which is connected to the mounting bracket -2- and the mounting plate -3-.
The drive cable -4- is inserted into the mounting slide with the connection -5-. The rear connection -6- is positioned in the clamp jaw -7-. The clamp jaw is a safety component, which blocks the frame for the glass roof when the drive cable connections are broken.
The sliding blocks -8-, which are pushed down in the gate guide, are attached at the sides of the mounting slide. The mounting plate is bolted to the frame for the glass sliding roof.
