Preliminary work

INFORMATION: The replacement roof assembly frame is not a complete roof assembly and must be completed using the undamaged parts of the removed roof assembly.

1. Remove roof assembly. Refer to Removing and installing roof assembly.

CAUTION: Risk of damage to roof assembly when removed.
- Placing the roof assembly on a level surface can damage the roof assembly frame.
- Only work on the removed roof assembly when the roof assembly is mounted on the assembly fixture. Refer to Mounting roof assembly on assembly fixture.

2. Take the new roof assembly frame out of the package and mount it on the assembly fixture. Refer to Mounting roof assembly on assembly fixture
3. Remove wiper motor for rear window washer. Refer to Removing and installing wiper motor for rear window washer system.
4. Remove closing aid. Refer to Removing and installing closing aid.
5. Remove motor for sunroof at the left and right. Refer to Removing and installing motor for glass sunroof.
6. Remove microswitch for closing the sunroof. Refer to Removing and installing motor for glass sunroof.
7. Remove air deflector. Refer to Removing and installing air deflector.
8. Remove frame for sunroof cover. Refer to Removing and installing frame for sunroof cover.
9. Remove wire harness for roof assembly. Refer to Removing and installing wire harness for roof assembly
10. Remove holder unit (drive mechanism). Refer to Replacing holder unit (drive mechanism).

Replacing roof assembly frame

Disassembling roof assembly frame







1. Pull seal for the centre joint -1- out of the roof assembly frame in -direction of arrow-.







2. Pull seal for rear window cover -1- off the roof assembly frame flange all the way around in -direction of arrow-.







3. Unscrew fastening nuts -2- and remove lid hinge -1-.







4. Press rubber grommet for water drain -1- at the front left and right out of the roof assembly frame.







Assembling roof assembly frame

1. Press rubber grommet for water drain -1- at the front left and right into the roof assembly frame.







2. Position lid hinge -1- on the roof assembly frame and secure with fastening nuts -2-. Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)







3. Fit seal for rear window cover -1- all the way around in -direction of arrow- on the roof assembly frame flange.







4. Pull seal for the centre joint -1- into the roof assembly frame in -direction of arrow-. The seal for the centre joint -1- must be flush on the left and right.







Subsequent work

1. Install holder unit (drive mechanism). Refer to Replacing holder unit (drive mechanism).
2. Install wire harness for roof assembly. Refer to Removing and installing wire harness for roof assembly.
3. Install frame for sunroof cover. Refer to Removing and installing frame for sunroof cover.
4. Install air deflector. Refer to Removing and installing air deflector.
5. Install microswitch for closing the sunroof. Refer to Removing and installing motor for glass sunroof.
6. Install motor for sunroof at the left and right. Refer to Removing and installing motor for glass sunroof.
7. Install closing aid. Refer to Removing and installing closing aid.
8. Install wiper motor for rear window washer. Refer to Removing and installing wiper motor for rear window washer system.
9. Connect roof assembly and vehicle using an adapter cable 9758.
10. Adjust microswitch for closing the sunroof. Refer to Removing and installing motor for glass sunroof.
11. Carry out a function test from the vehicle using the adapter cable 9758.
12. Connect PIWIS Tester 9718 and read out fault memory; erase the fault memory if necessary.
13. Install roof assembly. Refer to Removing and installing roof assembly.
