Doors: Description and Operation
Doors
The use of aluminum is also new for the doors. Doors made of aluminum are used for the first time on the new 911 Turbo (997). This permits a weight saving of approx. 15.5 lbs (7 kg) per door compared with a steel design. Integration of the attachment points in the door frames made of die-cast aluminum ensures easy assembly and minimum tolerances. This guarantees a stable production process with a high level of quality reliability. The door channel reinforcement and the door reinforcement are inserted at the top and middle of the door frame respectively. The reinforcements guarantee excellent transmission of forces from the front to the rear of the car in the event of a head-on collision, as well as excellent absorption of energy in a side impact.
