Similar to the 911 Turbo (996), the third brake light is form fitted in the rear edge of the rear lid. Like the direction indicators at the front, the brake light on the new 911 Turbo features LED technology. In addition to the long service life, the advantage of LED technology for the third brake light is above all the short response time. Compared with incandescent lamps with a response time of approx. 100 ms, the response time of LEDs is only approx. 0.1 ms. The difference is equivalent to a distance of just under 3 yards at a speed of 60 mph (100 km/h). Earlier signaling of braking therefore makes a contribution to warning the following traffic more quickly and therefore also to passive safety.
