Lambda Sensor Upstream of Catalytic Converter

Removing And Installing Lambda Sensor Upstream Of Catalytic Converter

Tools

Technical values

Preliminary work

DANGER:
Risk of engine falling down.
- Danger of fatal injury, material damage.

- Support the engine with the prescribed tool.

1. Remove pressure pipe.
2. Remove air cleaner housing.
3. Lower the engine.
Lower the engine by max. 40 mm.
Support the engine using a jack and retainer plate P 9592.
Loosen and screw off M12 collar nuts on the engine mounting. Carefully lower the engine using the jack.

Removing lambda sensor upstream of catalytic converter
1. Observe precautionary measures when working with lambda sensors.
2. Disconnect cable plug for the lambda sensor lines.
Pull connector -2, 6- for the lambda sensors with the blue boot on the right and left out of the bracket -3, 4- and disconnect plug connection.

NOTE: Always expose oxygen sensor wire far enough for it to be able to turn when unscrewing the sensor.

3. Expose the lambda sensor wire.
3.1. Expose the lambda sensor wire on cylinder bank 4-6.
Unclip lambda sensor wire -2-with the blue boot out of the brackets -3, 4, 5-.

3.2. Expose the lambda sensor wire on cylinder bank 1 -3.
Unclip lambda sensor wire -2-with the blue boot out of the brackets -3, 4, and 5-.

4. Remove lambda sensors upstream of catalytic converter.
4.1. Loosen and unscrew lambda sensor 4-6 -4- upstream of catalytic converter -8- using an open ring wrench Nr.98 and torque wrench -92/1-.

4.2. Loosen and unscrew lambda sensor 1-3 -3- upstream of catalytic converter -9- using an open ring wrench Nr.98 and torque wrench.

Installing lambda sensor upstream of catalytic converter
1. Observe precautionary measures when working with lambda sensors.

NOTE:
- When reinstalling lambda sensors, grease the thread with Porsche high-temperature grease (Part No. 000.043.207.07).
- New lambda sensors have already been greased and the thread is fitted with a protection cap.

2. Install lambda sensor.
2.1. During reinstallation, the thread of the lambda sensors must be coated with the prescribed grease.
2.2. Install lambda sensor on side 4-6.
Position lambda sensor 4-6 -4- upstream of catalytic converter -8- and tighten with an open ring wrench Nr.98 and torque wrench.

- Tightening torque: 55 Nm (41 ftlb.) ±5 Nm (±3.5 ftlb.)

3. Install lambda sensor on side 1-3.
3.1. During reinstallation, the thread of the lambda sensors must be coated with the prescribed grease.
3.2. Position lambda sensor 1-3 -3- upstream of catalytic converter -9- and tighten it with an open ring wrench Nr.98 and torque wrench.

- Tightening torque: 55 Nm (41 ftlb.)±5 Nm (±3.5 ftlb.)

4. Route lambda sensor wire.
4.1. Route lambda sensor wire 4-6.
Clip lambda sensor wire -2- with the blue boot into the brackets -3, 4, and 5-.

4.2. Route lambda sensor wire 1-3.
Clip lambda sensor wire -2- with the blue boot into the brackets -3, 4 and 5-.

5. Connect plug connections for lambda sensor wire.
5.1. Connect plug connections for lambda sensors with the blue boot -2, 6- on the right and left and insert into the bracket -3, 4-.

Subsequent work
1. Raise the engine.
Raise engine into installation position with a jack, using retainer plate P 9592 to do this. Screw in and tighten M12 collar nuts.

- Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)

2. Install air cleaner housing.
3. Install pressure pipe.
