Removing And Installing The Generator

Preliminary work

Preliminary work for generator

1. Disconnect ground terminal on the battery and cover the terminal or battery.
2. Remove air cleaner housing.
3. Remove pressure pipe.
4. Remove drive belt from the generator and air-conditioning compressor.

Removing the generator







DANGER:
Danger of fatal injury, burns and fire damage.
- Although the operating voltage of the vehicle electrical system is only 12 volts, there is a danger of burns and risk of fire damage because of the battery's high energy content. A short circuit can result in extremely high currents.

- Remove ignition key, disconnect ground terminal on battery before starting any assembly work and insulate ground lead from battery terminal.







1. Unscrew fastening screw -1- on the deflection roller -2- in front of the generator and remove the deflection roller -2-.
2. Unscrew the two fastening screws -3- for the generator and remove them.







3. Insert a screwdriver between the generator and the bracket and press the generator out to the left.







4. Tilt the generator forwards, unscrew the fastening nut -4- for the B+ line and remove the line on the generator.
5. Release the electric connector on the generator -a- and remove it. Take out the generator.

Installing the generator

1. Position the generator in the engine compartment, fit the B+ line on the generator and secure with the fastening nut -4-. Tightening torque: 18 Nm (13 ftlb.)







2. Insert electric connector on the generator until the connector clicks into place.
3. Push the generator onto the bracket and secure with the two fastening screws -3-. Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)







4. Position the deflection roller -2- and secure with the fastening screw -1-. Tightening torque: 46 Nm (34 ftlb.)







Subsequent work

Subsequent work for generator

1. Fit drive belt.
2. Install pressure pipe.
3. Install air cleaner housing.
4. Connect ground terminal to the battery and carry out work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
