Differential: Description and Operation

Rear Differential Lock

A mechanical rear differential lock with asymmetrical split is available as an option for the new 911 Turbo. The lock values are 22 % under traction and 27 % under deceleration, similar to the previous 911 Turbo (996). On the 911 Turbo, the mechanical rear differential lock supports the driving dynamics of the controlled all-wheel system Porsche Traction Management (PTM), and offers the following advantages:
- Higher traction on changing road surfaces and when cornering in the limit range.
- Improved driving stability in the event of load changes when cornering in the limit range.
- Improved agility in curves in the event of high lateral acceleration in the limit range.

The rear differential lock is offered exclusively in conjunction with manual gearboxes for the new 911 Turbo.

Filling Capacity

The new filling quantity of the gearbox is 3.3 qts (3.5 liters), the change quantity is approx. 2.9 qts (3.1 liters).
