Removing and installing sealing ring for short halfshaft flange





Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
2. Remove right rear wheel.
3. Remove short halfshaft flange.

Removing sealing ring for short halfshaft flange

1. Remove sealing ring from transmission using striker VW 771/1 and extraction tool VW 771/37.

Information
The sealing ring must fit in the transmission housing at the same depth all round.

1. Thinly coat sealing lip and outer circumference of sealing ring with Vaseline and insert sealing ring as far as it will go using pressure piece 9252.





Tapping in sealing ring

Subsequent work

1. Install short halfshaft flange.
2. Fit right rear wheel.
3. Check transmission oil level in the final drive and top up if necessary.
4. Lower the vehicle.
