Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Place protective covers in passenger compartment.
2. Move seats all the way forward.
3. Remove rear wall cover.

4. Remove rear and centre underbody covers.

5. Drain coolant. Open cap in service tray.

6. Remove two coolant hoses (supply and return line) -3-.
6.1. Open plastic holder -1- and unclip spring clamps -2-. Pull Henn couplings out of the coolant pipes.
6.2. Open one spring band clamp and pull off hose.

WARNING

Objects or loads falling down

- Risk of squashing or crushing

-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

Information

- It may only be supported over a large area at the oil pan.

- Localised loading is not permitted.

1. Support engine using transmission and unit jack Junior Jack 2.0 WE 1223 and GA passenger car transmission plate WE 1224 at the oil pan.
2. Loosen hexagon-head bolts at the top of the engine bracket.
2.1. Only loosen the bolts, as the upper screw flanges of the engine bracket are slotted.
Accessible through maintenance opening in passenger compartment.
3. Screw off four collar nuts (M10) -arrows- on the engine carrier.
3.1. Lower the engine a little.

4. Unscrew two hexagon-head bolts (M10 x 120) -1- at the bottom of the engine carrier.
5. On the new engine carrier, also unscrew an internal Torx screw (M6 x 110).

5.1. This bolt is also used to screw on the oil pump.
The bolt is shown on the oil pump illustration in the parts catalogue.

6. Remove entire engine carrier downwards.
6.1. If necessary (to make removal easier), unscrew the four studs (M10 x 84) as well.

Installing engine carrier

WARNING

Objects or loads falling down

- Risk of squashing or crushing

-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

Information

- It may only be supported over a large area at the oil pan.

- Localised loading is not permitted.

1. Position engine carrier on engine from below.
1.1. Screw in two hexagon-head bolts (M10 x 120) -1- at the bottom and tighten slightly.
1.2. If applicable, screw in the four studs (M10 x 84).
=> Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
1.3. Slightly tighten two hexagon-head bolts (M10 x 120 -1- and M10 x 80) -2- at the top of the engine carrier.
Assemble through the maintenance opening in the passenger compartment.





"Old" engine carrier

2. On the engine carrier -1- for the M97.20 and M97.21 engines, also fit and tighten the internal Torx screw (M6 x 110) -2-.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)





"New" engine carrier

3. Tighten four hexagon-head bolts on the engine carrier.
=> Tightening torque: 46 Nm (34 ftlb.)
4. Lift engine, fit and tighten four collar nuts.
4.1. Collar nuts that can be screwed in by hand need to be replaced.
=> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

Information

- Grease O-rings, hoses and lines in the cooling system with Kluberplus Gel (Part No. 000.043.205.93).

1. Install two coolant hoses (supply and return line).
1.1. Coat O-rings with Kluberplus gel.
1.2. Clip in spring clamps.
1.3. Fit Henn couplings to the coolant pipes (listen for audible click) and check they are seated securely.
2. Fill in coolant and bleed cooling system. Remove engine compartment cover to do this.

3. Start the engine and inspect the coolant hoses for leaks.
4. Install engine compartment lid.

5. Install rear wall cover.

6. Install rear and centre underbody covers.

7. Remove protective covers.
8. Move seats into initial position.
