Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Service and Repair


WM 244519 Removing and installing air flow sensor

Preliminary work for removing air flow sensor

1. Place protective covers on the vehicle to avoid damaging the body.
2. Remove engine compartment lid -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid.
3. Remove throttle housing and distributor pipe -> 244219 Removing and installing throttle housing Service and Repair.

Removing air flow sensor

1. Remove rubber sleeve for intake-air distributor -1-. Unscrew the screw-type hose clamp -2- for this purpose.
2. Release and disconnect cable plug for air flow sensor -3-.
3. Open clamps -arrows-.

4. Pull air flow sensor out of air cleaner housing flange.

Installing air flow sensor

1. Replace O-ring if necessary -arrow-. Grease O-ring to be used for assembly lightly with Optimol MP3 assembly grease and insert it correctly.

2. Push air flow sensor into air cleaner housing flange. Ensure correct seating of the O-ring.
3. Clip clamps -arrows- into place.
4. Connect cable plug for air flow sensor -3-.
5. Fit rubber sleeve for intake-air distributor -1-. Tighten screw-type hose clamp -2-.

Work subsequent to installing air flow sensor

1. Install throttle housing and distributor pipe. See: -> 244219 Removing and installing throttle body Service and Repair
2. Install engine compartment lid. -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid
3. Read out fault memory and correct any faults that are present. Erase fault memory. -> 033500 On-board diagnosis (OBD) 033500 On-board diagnosis (OBD)
