Removing And Installing Hood Covering
Preliminary work
1. Remove seal for hood tip. Refer to Removing and installing seal for hood tip
2. Remove inner hood lining. Refer to Removing and installing inner hood lining
Removing hood covering
NOTE:
- The spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts must always be replaced.
- The convertible-top covering must be replaced at a room temperature of at least 15 °C (59 Fahrenheit).
1. Remove tension strap on main folding top bow.
1.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- from the fabric pocket on the main folding top bow.
1.2. Move fabric pocket and disengage the tension spring from the tension strap -A-.
2. Remove tension bow seal.
2.1. Unscrew left and right fastening screws from tension bow seal and pull out of groove on tension bow.
3. Remove hood covering on tension bow.
3.1. Remove seal -A- from groove on tension bow.
3.2. Disengage hood covering from groove -B-.
4. Remove tension cable on hood covering.
4.1. From the tension cable -1-, unscrew the fastening screw -2-.
5. Remove hood covering at sides of roof frame 1.
5.1. From the roof frame -1-, unscrew the fastening screws -2- and lift the shaped sheetmetal part -3- with the hood covering.
6. Remove hood covering at the front on roof frame 1.
6.1. Detach hood covering at the front on roof frame 1 and lay it down to the rear.
7. Remove fastening strap on the main folding top bow.
7.1. Remove thrust wedge.
7.2. Unscrew fastening screws -1-.
7.3. Unscrew fastening screws -2- from the shaped sheetmetal part on the main folding top bow from the rear.
7.4. Pull the connection of the fastening strap off the shaped sheetmetal part.
8. Remove holding strap for hood covering.
8.1. Press out fixing clip from roof frame 3 at inner right. On the left side, press fixing clip of wire harness out of roof frame 3.
9. Remove hood covering at the corner bow.
9.1. Loosen bonding of inner cloth -A- around the corner bow.
9.2. Fold the hood covering forward towards the roof frame.
9.3. Pull seal out of the groove on the corner bow -B- and disengage the covering strip of the hood covering in a downward direction.
10. Remove hood covering on main folding top bow
10.1. Pull the tightening strip for the hood covering -1- out of the groove on the main folding top bow -2-. Remove hood covering from the vehicle.
Installing hood covering
NOTE:
- If the convertible-top covering is very taut (with new convertible-top covering), close the convertible top and heat the convertible-top covering evenly using an infra-red radiator WE 00000.
- Ensure that the convertible-top covering is not heated for longer than 1 hour. Observe a minimum distance of 100 cm for the infra-red radiator and a maximum temperature of approx. 60 °C (140 Fahrenheit). Then leave the vehicle to stand overnight with the convertible top closed.
- The same effect can be achieved if the vehicle is exposed to direct sunlight.
- The spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts must always be replaced.
- The convertible-top covering must be replaced at a room temperature of at least 15 °C (59 Fahrenheit).
1. All pins and screw joints on the hood frame must be checked for tightness before installing the hood covering. Refer to Replacing hood frame
2. The tension strap and the bracing strap must be replaced before installing the hood covering. Refer to Replacing hood frame
3. The rear window glass must be installed before installing the hood covering. Refer to Removing and installing rear window
4. Fasten hood covering at the main folding top bow.
4.1. Position the hood covering on the hood frame, fit the front tightening strip -1- for the hood covering in the groove on the main folding top bow -2- and centre it.
5. Secure hood covering at the corner bow.
5.1. Press middle of tightening strip (notch marking) into the groove on the corner bow (centre of the corner bow is indicated by a hole).
5.2. The tightening strip is secured by tapping in the piping -B-.
5.3. Coat the tension hook cloth with adhesive and stick it inside around the corner bow -A-.
6. Secure holding strap for the hood covering.
6.1. Position holding strap at the right on hood frame 3 on the inside and press in the clip.
6.2. On the left side, the holding strap is secured with the fixing clip on the wire harness.
7. Secure the fastening strap at the main folding top bow.
7.1. Turn the vertical fastening strap for the hood covering inward around the main folding top bow and place it on the shaped sheetmetal part. Secure with the fastening screws -2-. Tightening torque -] Tightening torque : 1.7 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)
7.2. Position thrust wedge on main folding top bow and screw in place with fastening screws -1-. Tightening torque -] Tightening torque: 2.8 Nm (2.0 ftlb.)
8. Secure hood covering at the sides of roof frame 1.
8.1. Lay the hood covering to the front and guide the shaped sheetmetal part -3- from above into the roof frame -1-.
8.2. Starting from the underside of the roof frame from the rear, secure the hood covering with fastening screws -2-. Tightening torque -] Tightening torque : 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
9. Secure hood covering at the front.
9.1. A cardboard strip and a self-adhesive strip are affixed at the front of the hood covering. Pull the protective film off the adhesive tape.
9.2. Fold the hood material around the roof frame edge without wrinkles. The hood covering is initially held with fixing clips.
10. Secure tension cable for hood covering.
10.1. Position tension cable eyelet -1- on the main folding top bow and secure with a fastening screw -2-. Tightening torque -] Tightening torque: 7 Nm (5.0 ftlb.)
NOTE: Cut-outs have been integrated to the right and left of the additional seal.
11. Secure hood covering at the tension bow.
11.1. Integrate the additional seal parallel to the tension strap -C- into the cut-outs on the right and left using a knife.
11.2. Press middle of tightening strip (notch marking) -A- into the lower groove on the tension bow -B- (centre of tension bow is indicated by a hole) -A-.
11.3. The reference overlap seams of the hood covering must be positioned and centered in the additional seal -C- cut-outs on the left and right.
11.4. Secure the hood covering by tapping in the piping -D-.
12. Fit tension bow seal.
12.1. Press tension bow seal into the lower groove on the tension bow and secure at both ends with fastening screws. Tightening torque -] Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
13. Secure tension strap at the main folding top bow.
13.1. Pull the left tension strap through the fabric pocket on the main folding top bow.
13.2. Engage both ends of the tension straps in the tension spring -A-.
13.3. Position fabric pocket on main folding top bow and secure with fastening screws -1-.
Subsequent work
1. Calibrate hood. Refer to K2 -Calibrating hood
2. Install inner hood lining. Refer to Removing and installing inner hood lining
3. Install seal for hood tip. Refer to Removing and installing seal for hood tip
