The new 3.6-liter and 3.8-liter engines also use the familiar VarioCam Plus camshaft adjustment system. It features the familiar 'vane type adjuster and 'switchable hydraulic tappet' control elements for adjusting the timing of the intake valves and switching the maximum valve lift of the intake valves between 3.6 mm and 11.0 mm controlled by a map in the Motronic control module. To improve volumetric efficiency, the map for VarioCam Plus in the Motronic control module was fine tuned. This contributes to achieving the high specific output and torque values.
