Removing And Installing Closing Aid

Preliminary work

Preliminary work for closing aid

Hold rear-wall lining underneath at the sides and carefully pull it out of the clips in -direction of arrow-.







Removing closing aid







1. Unscrew the fastening screws -1- and fold over the closing aid, which is engaged in the support strut -Inset- on the body.







2. Screw off hexagon nut -2-, then remove the support strut on the closing aid.







3. Disconnect plug connection for microswitch.
3.1. Turn connector unit and remove it from the body.
3.2. Release connectors -3- and -4- (-Arrow A-) and disconnect plug connection -Arrow-.
3.3. Open the lock -Arrow B- and pull connector -4- down off connector -3-.







Installing closing aid

INFORMATION: After replacing the closing aid, the Targa roof control unit must be reset.

1. Slide on connectors -3- and -4- and press them together until they engage securely. Engage connectors on body and lock them -arrow-.







2. Engage strut on the closing aid and secure with the hexagon nut -2-. Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)







3. Fit closing aid on roof assembly.







3.1. Fold closing aid support upwards -arrow-. Make sure that the support strut -inset- for the closing aid is engaged properly.
3.2. Coat fastening screw -1- with medium-strength Loctite 270 and tighten it. Tightening torque: 9.5 Nm (7.0 ftlb.)

4. Adjust the position of the closing aid to the specified ejection height. The position of the closing aid affects the ejection height and the chafing noises at the rear lid. After opening the rear lid, the ejection height should be X = 26.7 ±10 mm.







Subsequent work

Subsequent work for closing aid

INFORMATION: If a new closing aid is installed, it must be initialised.

1. Adjust the position of the closing aid to the specified ejection height. The position of the closing aid affects the ejection height and the chafing noises at the rear lid. After opening the rear lid, the ejection height should be X = 26.7 ±10 mm.







2. Disconnect power supply for the closing aid. To do this, disconnect the central connector for the Targa roof (30-pin).







- Turn connector in direction of -arrow A- and pull it up and off.
- To disconnect the connector, open the lock -arrow B-.

3. Reconnect power supply. Rejoin and position central connector (30-pin).







- Connect connector and close the lock -B-.
- Position connector and screw in securely in direction of arrow -A-.

4. Position rear-wall lining and push on in direction of arrow until the pins on the cover clip into place.







5. If a customer subsequently complains about noise coming from the rear window cover, note the following procedure and carry it out if necessary. Refer to Eliminating noise symptoms - Reworking rear window cover.
