WM 170101 Eliminating symptoms Engine: Checking engine oil level ("blue smoke" from engine)

General information

Symptom

"Blue smoke" from engine.

Causes and remedial action

Cause

Engine oil level too high.

Remedial action

Check the engine oil level and if the engine oil is over the Maximum marking:
Adjust the engine oil level to the Maximum marking and
Clean the inside of the intake manifold.

1. Check the engine oil level as described under "Checking engine oil level".

Risk of damage to engine or catalytic converter


-> Check the oil level regularly.
-> The oil level must not fall below the Minimum marking or rise above the Maximum marking.
-> Only use approved engine oils.

Information
If the complaint "blue smoke from engine" is received and the engine oil level is over the Maximum marking, the engine must not be replaced: Work through the following points before further work is performed.

2. Drain the engine oil and collect it in a clean container.
3. Reduce the amount of drained engine oil by half a liter and fill the rest back in.
4. Check the engine oil level again:
If the engine oil goes up to the Maximum marking, continue with Step 5.
If the engine oil is still over the Maximum marking, repeat Steps 2 to 4 again.
5. Remove the resonance tube.
6. The entire inside of the intake manifold must now be cleaned with a clean cloth.
7. Install the resonance tube.
