Care and Cleaning of the Hood

Care And Cleaning Of The Hood

General information

For the care and cleaning of the hood, use the Cabriolet Tequipment care case.

- The service life and look of the hood are largely dependent on proper care and operation.
- The car should be parked in the shade whenever possible, as the fabric, rubber coating and colour can be harmed by long exposure to sun radiation.
- In the case of leaks in the hood covering or seams or in the folded sections, use the Porsche hood care product.
- Do not use the Porsche hood care product on painted surfaces, glass or on the flexible rear window; if this is used, remove the product immediately.
- Do not remove stains on the hood with petrol, stain remover, benzene, paint thinner or other solvents; they attack the rubber layer between the fabrics and diminish the water-tightness and service life of the hood.
- Recommendation: Treat the hood with the Porsche hood care product twice a year or before installing the hardtop (winter driving).

General information on cleaning the hood

- Do not wash the hood every time the car is washed. It is normally sufficient to wash or rinse the hood with clear water. In the event of heavy soiling, moisten the hood with lukewarm water and Porsche Wash Shampoo & hood cleaner and rub gently with a sponge or soft brush. Then rinse off the hood with clear water until no traces of the Porsche Wash Shampoo & hood cleaner remain.
- Remove bird droppings immediately, because the acids they contain will cause the rubber material to swell and will make the hood leak.
- Only open the hood when it is completely dry, because otherwise damp stains and abrasions may occur which cannot be removed afterwards.
- In the case of light soiling and always before washing, brush the hood with a soft brush or with a strip of hood covering (cut out of an old hood covering) in the direction of the fabric lines of the hood material.

Procedure for cleaning the hood

1. Maintain a minimum distance of 300 mm between the power washer spray jet and the hood. Do not direct the high-pressure blast directly onto the seals.

Before using the Wash Shampoo, clean highly soiled areas using the power washer (starting at the cowl panel frame and moving towards the hood compartment lid)

2. Mixing the Wash Shampoo from the Cabriolet Tequipment care case: 1/2 large cap (measuring cap) -A- to 2 litres of water (i.e. 1 1/2 caps to 5 litres)

3. Use a brush with strong, non-scratch bristles. Rub the water/shampoo mixture into the hood fabric in circular movements while pressing slightly on the brush until a film of foam forms.

4. Maintain a minimum distance of 300 mm between the power washer spray jet and the hood. Do not direct the high-pressure blast directly onto the seals.

Do not let the Wash Shampoo dry in. Rinse the foam thoroughly off the hood, starting at the cowl panel frame and moving towards the hood compartment lid.

Preparing the hood for hot-steam cleaning

NOTICE: Hot steam on seals
- Risk of damage to components
- Do not use hot steam on seals.
- Use demineralised/distilled water to prevent the formation of stains/spots.
- Be careful when using hot steam.

Affected areas for setting folds

Technical data: Hot-steam cleaner
- Total output: 1500 watts
- Steam output: 850 watts
- Working pressure: 4 bar

1. Hot-steam cleaning:
1.1. Recommendation: Use the ceramic cleaner attachment
When using the ceramic cleaner attachment: Place the attachment on the hood covering without pressure and move it over the hood covering in slow, even strokes as you would when ironing fabric.

1.2. Alternatively: Use the nozzle attachment
When using the nozzle attachment: Maintain a distance of approx. 50 to 100 mm from the hood. Move the attachment over the hood covering in slow, even strokes as you would when ironing fabric.

2. Close the hood and leave it to dry following hot-steam cleaning.
3. Hood impregnation:
Use the hood care product from the Cabriolet Tequipment care case

Let the hood dry completely before using the product. Spray hood care product evenly and lightly from a distance of approx. 10 to 20 cm. Do not spray on glass, polyglass or painted surfaces and protect these surfaces from spray mist. Apply 2 or 3 times to seams if necessary. Only spray for a few seconds. Leave to dry off well following application. Do not apply in strong sunlight or on heated surfaces.

Care of convertible-top seals

INFORMATION:
- The convertible-top seals have an anti-friction coating or are flocked and do not require any special care.
- Never grease or lubricate or spray on gaskets that are flocked or have an anti-friction coating.

- Clean soiled seals with clear water.
- It is only possible to rinse the convertible top or to use an automatic car wash after the flocked gaskets have dried.
