Removing and installing oil pump on V6 DFI engines
Preliminary work
1. Remove all engine compartment covers.
2. Remove engine.
3. Remove transmission.
3.1. For vehicles with automatic transmission, refer to Removing and Installing Transmission.
3.1.1. Remove flywheel.
3.2. For vehicles with automatic transmission, refer to Removing and Installing Transmission.
3.2.1. Remove drive plate for torque converter.
4. Remove intake-air distributor.
5. Remove cylinder head cover.
6. Remove the timing-case cover at the top and bottom.
7. Set crankshaft to compression TDC for cylinder 1.
8. Remove timing chains.
Removing oil pump
1. Unscrew the fastening screws on the oil pump -arrows-.

2. Screw threaded bolt -1- into the oil pump shaft.

3. Position striker -2- and carefully knock the oil pump out. Striker VW 771/1 Threaded part VW 771/15

4. Pull striker off the oil pump.
Installing oil pump
1. Replace fastening screws.
2. Position oil pump on the cylinder crankcase.
3. Fit all fastening screws -arrows- and tighten at the same time to -> Torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.).

Subsequent work
1. Install timing chains.
2. After you have fitted the timing chains, turn the crankshaft twice and check the timing.
3. Fit the timing-case cover at the top and bottom.
4. Install the cylinder head cover.
5. Install intake-air distributor.
6. Install transmission.

6.1.1. Install flywheel.
6.2. For vehicles with automatic transmission, refer to Removing and installing transmission.
6.2.1. Remove drive plate for torque converter.
7. Install engine
8. Install all engine compartment covers.
