Coolant temperature stuck (stuck)
NOTE: The fault is detected if the coolant temperature at engine start was > 37 °C (99 °F)... > 70 °C (158 °F) (depending on time since engine was switched off). (e.g. off period 6 h --> Coolant temperature when engine starts > 70 °C (158 °F))
Diagnostic conditions
- Time since engine off > 6 h
- Intake air temperature when engine starts < 45 °C (113 °F)
- When the engine starts, the ambient temperature may differ from the intake air temperature by a maximum of 20 °C (68 °F)
- Engine running > 30 s
Possible fault causes
- If an original auxiliary heater is used: faulty 3/2-way valve
- Loose contact or corrosion on connectors or lines
- Coolant temperature sensor faulty
- Thermostat faulty
- Influence by engine-block heater
