Preliminary work for replacing sensor

The ORS sensor is located at the centre of the offroad stabiliser -arrow- on the front and rear axle respectively. -> 4000IN00 Component arrangement - Offroad Stabiliser System (ORS)

The procedure for replacing the sensor is the same on both the front and rear axle.





Offroad stabiliser sensor

WARNING

Risk of accidents. The Offroad Stabiliser System (ORS) operates at an overpressure of up to 165 bar. Under certain conditions, motions can occur on the wheel carrier (e.g. if the offroad stabilisers are disengaged when lifting, the button is pressed on the centre console, and the wheel carrier is also raised). The anti-roll bar can close quickly.

- Danger of crushing in the area of the anti-roll bars and wheel carriers. Risk of injury and material damage due to raising the wheel carrier incorrectly.

-> Before working on the vehicle, ensure that the ORS is engaged. The indicator light on the centre console button must be OFF. If the indicator light is on, follow the following procedure: Switch on the ignition and engage the road driving programme ]] High Range [[. The anti-roll bars must engage audibly.
-> Before working on the ORS, always depressurise the system. To do this, connect the PIWIS Tester and select ]] Offroad Stabi (ORS) ]] Drive links ]] Set FA or RA valve [[ in the menu. The valve clocks (audibly) until the procedure is finished.
-> Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels). When raising the suspension, use a suitable intermediate layer (hard rubber).
-> Do not damage the brake cover plate.

1. Before starting to work on the Offroad Stabiliser System (ORS), depressurise the system using the PIWIS Tester.
2. Lift the vehicle. -> 4000V000 Lifting the vehicle
3. Remove engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panelling)


Replacing sensor

1. Carefully remove any dirt you see on the sensor's threaded joints (e.g. with a brass wire brush).

2. Loosen the plug connection for the sensor line.
3. Loosen the hose clamp and guide the cable through.

Information

Wear protective gloves and goggles.

Clean the contact surface of the sensor with a lint-free cloth.

Use a new O-ring.

Observe correct tightening torques. -> 4000TW00 Tightening torques for front axle-> 4200TW00 Tightening torques for rear axle

4. Use a suitable collecting container and remove the sensor cover.

5. Fit the O-ring. Ensure that the O-ring is seated correctly -arrow-.
6. Insert the sensor into the sensor cover. Fit the assembly (sensor cover/sensor) -arrows-.

7. Fit plug connection for sensor line, clip in cable and fasten the hose clamp.

Subsequent work for replacing sensor

1. Bleed the ORS. -> 402607 Bleeding the Offroad Stabiliser System (ORS)
2. Perform a visual check for leaks on the sensor.
3. Fit engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panelling)
