1. Remove Tiptronic gears. => 373519 Removing and installing transmission - section on "Removing"

Torque converter

1. Clean emerging oil off converter bell housing.

CAUTION

ATF pump can be damaged if not installed correctly.

- Risk of shearing off drivers on ATF pump pinion

-> Precisely align cut-outs on the converter hub with the drivers on the ATF pump pinion
-> Install the converter slowly and carefully

2. Before installing the torque converter, align it in such a way that the cut-outs on the converter match those on the driver -arrows-.

3. Slowly push torque converter as far as it will go onto the transmission shaft. When doing so, make sure that the converter hub is still aligned with the ATF pump driver.

Information

- Ensure that converter is seated correctly.

4. The converter is installed at the correct position when the special tool locating pins 95950 can be inserted through the opening in the converter bell housing in front of the converter -inset-.

CAUTION

Leaks due to incorrect assembly sequence of torque converter

- Leaks after a new sealing ring was fitted
- Leaks following installation of the torque converter

5. When sliding in the torque converter -1- , the sealing lip of the shaft sealing ring can bend over because of a ridge on the torque converter -1-. -bottom arrow-

6. Pull torque converter -1- out by approx. 5 mm. This moves the shaft sealing ring back into its correct installation position. => Positioning sealing lip

7. Push torque converter as far as it will go onto the transmission shaft.

8. The converter is installed at the correct position when the special tool locating pins 95950 can be inserted through the opening in the converter bell housing in front of the converter -inset-.

Reworking the torque converter

1. Install Tiptronic transmission. => 373519 Removing and installing transmission - section on "Installing"
2. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF. => 370235 Checking and topping up the ATF
