Removing And Installing Tunnel Support

Technical values







Preliminary work

1. Remove triggering unit for airbag. Refer to Removing and installing triggering unit for airbag.
2. Remove glove box. Refer to Removing and installing glove box.
3. Remove PCM display and operator control unit. Refer to Removing and installing PCM display and operator control unit.
4. Remove air-conditioning system regulator. Refer to Removing and installing air-conditioning system regulator.
5. Remove switch console. Refer to Removing and installing switch console.
6. Remove trim panel under dashboard on the driver's side. Refer to Removing and installing trim panel under dashboard.
7. Unscrew fastening screws -1-.







INFORMATION: Unclip electrical lead in vehicles with a telephone handset.

8. Pull unit carrier -2- towards the rear.

Removing tunnel support







1. Disengage plug connections for the centre air jet -1- at the tunnel support -2- (-arrows-).







2. Unclip cable guide for wire harness -1- at the tunnel support -2- by pressing the locking lugs -arrows- together.







3. Unscrew plug connection for centre console -1- in -direction of arrow- and remove from the tunnel support -2-.







4. Unclip tie-wrap for wire harness -1- at the tunnel support -2- by pressing the locking lugs -arrows- together.







5. Disengage wire harness -1- at the tunnel support -2- (holder) -arrows A- and slide through towards the rear -arrows B-.







6. Unscrew fastening screw -1- and remove strut -2- by pulling it down out of the tunnel support -3- (-arrow-).







7. Unscrew fastening screws at the top -1- and bottom -2- of the tunnel support.







8. Press tunnel support -1- down slightly -arrow A- and remove it from the guide on the air-conditioning unit -2- (-arrow B-).







9. Check fastening nuts -1- and replace them if necessary.







Installing tunnel support

1. Position tunnel support -1- into the guide on the air-conditioning unit -2- (-arrow A-) and guide it upwards at the same time -arrow B-.







2. Screw in fastening screws at the top -1- and bottom -2- of the tunnel support. Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.), 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)







3. Guide strut -2- up into the tunnel support -3- (-arrow-) and secure with the fastening screw -1-. Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)







4. Pull wire harnesses -1- through the tunnel support -2- (-arrows A-) and engage at the tunnel support (holder) -2- (-arrows B-).







5. Clip in tie-wrap for wire harness -1- at the tunnel support -2- (-arrow-).







6. Position plug connection for centre console -1- at the tunnel support -2- and secure it by turning in -direction of arrow-.







7. Clip in cable guide for wire harness -1- at the tunnel support -2- (-arrow-).







8. Engage plug connections for the centre air jet -1- at the tunnel support -2- (-arrow-).







Subsequent work

1. Position unit carrier -2- and secure in place with the fastening screws -1-. Tightening torque: 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)







2. Install trim panel under dashboard at the driver's side. Refer to Removing and installing trim panel under dashboard.
3. Install switch console. Refer to Removing and installing switch console.
4. Install air-conditioning system regulator. refer to Removing and installing air-conditioning system regulator.
5. Install PCM display and operator control unit. Refer to Removing and installing PCM display and operator control unit.
6. Install glove box. Refer to Removing and installing glove box.
7. Install triggering unit for airbag. Refer to Removing and installing triggering unit for airbag.
