Replacing Tension Rope

Preliminary work

Refer to Hood in service position

Partly remove hood covering.

1. Remove tension rope on hood covering.







1.1. On the tension rope eye -1-, unscrew the fastening screw -2-.

2. Remove seals and retaining frame at sides of roof frame.







2.1. Pull the lower seal -1- out of the profile of the retaining strip -2-.
2.2. On the upper seal -3- with the retaining rail -2-, unscrew the fastening screws -4- and remove the seal -3- and the retaining rail -2- from the roof frame.

3. Remove retaining strip and hood seal on roof frame 1.







3.1. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -1- from the retaining strip -2-.
3.2. On the hood seal -3-, unscrew the fastening screws -4-.
3.3. Pull hood seal -3- at the left and right forward out of roof frame 1.

4. Remove hood covering at sides of roof frame 1.







4.1. On the roof frame -1-, unscrew the fastening screws -2- and lift the shaped sheetmetal part -3- with the hood covering.

5. Remove hood covering at front on roof frame 1.







5.1. Detach hood covering at front on roof frame 1 and lay it down to the rear.

Removing tension rope

The following spare parts and tools are required for repairing the tension rope:







1. Disengage tension rope at the shaped sheetmetal part.
1.1. Cut open plastic sleeve -1- with a pair of scissors.
1.2. Disengage tension rope -2- from tension spring -3- at the shaped sheetmetal part.
1.3. Pull tension rope -2- out of the spring -4-.







Installing tension rope

1. Place eye on the tension rope and measure the total length.
1.1. Push the eye fully onto the end of the tension rope.
1.2. Measure the total length of the tension rope from centre of eye to centre of eye with a tape measure -dimension X = 845 mm-.







2. Fit tension rope to the shaped sheetmetal part.
2.1. Pull tension rope -2- into the spring -4-.
2.2. Push shrink-fit hose -1- over the tension rope -2-.
2.3. Engage tension rope -2- in tension spring -3- at the shaped sheetmetal part.
2.4. Pull the shrink-fit hose -1- over the tension spring. Shrink the shrink-fit hose to the diameter of the tension spring by heating it with a hot-air gun.







3. Crimp eye with the tension rope.
3.1. Attach eye B to the tension rope A and crimp twice using the crimping tool 9762. The second crimp must be applied at an offset of 90°.







Subsequent work

Partly install hood covering.

1. Fasten hood covering at the sides of roof frame 1.







1.1. Position hood covering to the front and guide the shaped sheetmetal part -3- into the roof frame -1- from above.
1.2. Starting from the rear, fasten the hood covering with fastening screws -2- from the bottom side of the roof frame. Tightening torque : 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

2. Fasten hood covering at front.







2.1. A cardboard strip and a self-adhesive strip are affixed at the front of the hood covering. Pull the protective film off the adhesive tape.
2.2. Fold the hood material around the roof frame edge without wrinkles. The hood covering is initially held with fixing clips.

3. Fasten retaining strip and hood seal on roof frame 1.







3.1. Remove fixing clips.
3.2. Insert hood seal -1- at the front corners into roof frame 1 and tighten with fastening screws -2-. Tightening torque : 1.7 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)
3.3. Position retaining strip -3- on roof frame 1 and tighten with fastening screws -4-. Tightening torque : 3.5 Nm (2.5 ftlb.)

4. Fasten seals and retaining strip at the sides of roof frame.







4.1. Position upper seal -1- onto retaining strip -2- and screw on to roof frame with fastening screws -3-. Tightening torque: 2.8 Nm (2.0 ftlb.)
4.2. Press the lower seal -4- into the profile of the retaining strip -2-.

5. Fasten tension rope of hood covering.







5.1. Position tension rope eye -1- on main folding top bow and screw in place with the fastening screw -2-. Tightening torque: 7 Nm (5.0 ftlb.)
