Removing and installing sealing ring for front halfshaft flange





Preliminary work

Danger:
Vehicle raised incorrectly.
^ Danger of fatal injury or material damage should the vehicle fall down.


- Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

1. Jack and raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
2. Remove front underbody panelling.
3. Remove front drive shaft.
4. Place oil collection pan under the transmission.

1. Lever off halfshaft flange.

Lever out halfshaft flange with mounting lever.

2. Carefully lever out sealing ring -1- with a mounting lever -3-.

Installing sealing ring for front halfshaft flange

1. Grease the sealing ring.

Fill the space between the dust and sealing lips -arrow- on the new sealing ring with grease, e.g. Liqui-Moly.

2. Use a pressure piece P 9537 to drive the sealing ring into the cover for final drive -1- until it is flush.

3. Install halfshaft flange.
3.1. Replace circlip -A- for the halfshaft flange. To do this, clamp the halfshaft flange in the vice with a hexagon-head bolt -B- and press the circlip out with the new circlip -A-.

3.2. Grease circlip -A- for easier fitting.
3.3. Tap the halfshaft flange -arrow- into the final drive using a rubber hammer.

Subsequent work

1. Install front drive shaft.
2. Check oil for front final drive and top up if necessary.
3. Install front underbody panelling.
4. Lower the vehicle.
