Removing And Installing Side Window Seal
Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Remove side window. Refer to Removing and installing side window.
2. Pull off rubber seal for door in the B-pillar area. Refer to Removing and installing rubber seal for door.
Removing side trim panel support
1. Remove side trim panel support.
1.1. Screw off fastening nuts -1- on side trim panel support -2-.
1.2. Unclip side trim panel support -2- at the retaining clips -Arrow A- and lift it up to remove it -Arrow B-.
INFORMATION: Left side only.
1.3. Turn plug connection for roof assembly -3- (-Arrow C-) and remove it from the side trim panel support -2- (-Arrow D-).
Removing inner side-window seal
1. Pull side-window seal off the seam of the side-window aperture.
Loosening sound absorber
1. Unscrew fixing clip -1- (-Arrow A-) and remove sound absorber -2- (-Arrow B-).
2. Carefully loosen the sound absorber -1- and fold it down -Arrow A-.
3. Remove sound absorber -2- from the side panel -Arrow B-.
4. Carefully loosen seal for side panel -1- and fold it down.
Removing upper part of outer side-window seal
1. Drill out rivets -2- in the upper part of the side-window seal -1- using a 4.1 mm drill.
2. Remove upper part of side-window seal.
2.1. Remove upper part of side-window seal -1- at the front blind rivet for the T-bolt -2- by lifting it upwards -arrow A-.
2.2. Pull upper part of side-window seal -1- forward in direction of travel -arrow B- until the upper part of the side-window seal -1- can be removed at the slot above the rear blind rivet for the T-bolt -2-.
3. Apply cavity preservation.
3.1. Insert spray-gun hose for cavity preservation through the opening -arrow- in the B-pillar and move it 30 cm forwards and then 30 cm back into the roof frame.
3.2. While actuating the spray gun, pull the hose out of the roof frame at the front and rear in about 2 seconds and apply cavity preservation in areas -A and B-.
Removing lower part of outer side-window seal
1. Remove lower part of side-window seal.
1.1. Drill out rivets -2- in the lower part of the side-window seal -1- using a 4.1 mm drill.
1.2. Remove lower part of side-window seal -1- by lifting it upwards.
2. Remove rubber sleeve -A- at the bottom of the door sill.
3. Apply cavity preservation.
3.1. Insert spray-gun hose for cavity preservation through the opening -arrow- in the door sill from below and move it 30 cm forwards and then 30 cm back.
3.2. While actuating the spray gun, pull the hose out of the door sill at the front and rear in about 2 seconds and apply cavity preservation in area -A-.
4. Fit rubber sleeve -A- at the bottom of the door sill.
Installing side window seal
Installing lower part of outer side-window seal
1. Install lower part of side-window seal.
1.1. Fit lower part of side-window seal -1- into the centring hole in the B-pillar area using the centring pin and align it.
1.2. Rivet lower part of side-window seal -1- using rivets -2- (4.0 x 6.3).
Installing upper part of outer side-window seal
1. Position upper part of side-window seal.
INFORMATION: Use the Arrow marking on the bodyshell for guidance.
1.1. Fit upper part of side-window seal -1- with the slot onto the rear blind rivet for the T-bolt -2- and slide it backwards in direction of travel -arrow A-.
1.2. Insert upper part of side-window seal -1- with the cut-out on the front blind rivet for the T-bolt -2- (-arrow B-).
2. Install upper part of side-window seal.
INFORMATION: Check that the sealing lip -3- on the lower part of the side-window seal is not trapped. Pull the sealing lip out with a plastic spatula if necessary.
2.1. Rivet upper part of side-window seal -1- using rivets -2- (4.0 x 7.9).
Securing sound absorber
1. Check side panel seal -1- for damage and replace it if necessary. Stick side panel seal on using commercially available adhesive.
2. Fit sound absorber -2- into the side panel -Arrow A-.
3. Check sound absorber -1- for damage and replace it if necessary. Stick sound absorber on using commercially available adhesive -Arrow B-.
4. Position sound absorber -2- on the side panel -Arrow A- and screw in fixing clip -1- (-Arrow B-).
Installing inner side-window seal
1. Position side-window seal on the seam of the side-window aperture and tap on carefully using a plastic hammer.
Installing side trim panel support
1. Install side trim panel support.
INFORMATION: Left side only.
1.1. Insert plug connection for roof assembly -3- into the side trim panel support -2- from below -Arrow A- and turn it -Arrow B-.
1.2. Fit side trim panel support -2- onto the threaded bolts from above -Arrow C- and clip it in using the retaining clip -Arrow D-.
1.3. Screw on fastening nuts -1- securely. Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)
Subsequent work
1. Fit rubber seal for door in B-pillar area. Refer to Removing and installing rubber seal for door.
2. Install side window. Refer to Removing and installing side window.
