Removing And Installing Rear Side Window

Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Remove B-pillar trim panel. Refer to Removing and installing B-pillar trim panel.
2. Remove rear roof trim panel. Refer to Removing and installing rear roof trim panel.
3. Loosen rear automatic belt device at the roof frame. Refer to Removing and installing rear three-point belt.
Removing rear side window
1. Loosen side window.
1.1. Unscrew fastening screw -1- (-Arrow-).
1.2. Loosen adjusting elements for side window -3- using the adjustment tool for rear window NR.123-1. To do this, loosen the fastening nuts -2- on the adjusting elements for the side window -3- and screw them off -Arrow-.
1.3. Screw the two adjusting elements for the side window -3- in fully.
2. Suction cups WE V.A.G 1344 -2- must be affixed to the side window -1- before removing the side window -1- in a downward direction -Arrow-.
Installing rear side window
INFORMATION:
- The removed side window can be reinstalled if there is no prior damage to the side window.
- If a new side window is installed, the two adjusting elements for the new side window must be screwed in fully before installation.
1. Position side window.
1.1. Suction cups WE V.A.G 1344 -2- must be affixed to the side window -1-.
1.2. Moisten the seal for the side window -3- with water for easier installation of the side window -1-.
1.3. Slide in the side window -1- from below using the suction cups WE V.A.G 1344 -2- so that it goes under the seal for the side window -3- (-Arrow A-).
1.4. Slide the side window -1- backwards towards the C-pillar using the suction cups WE V.A.G 1344 -2- (-Arrow B-) until the bushing -4- in the C-pillar engages.
1.5. Swivel the side window -1- into the holes in the B-pillar using the two adjusting elements for the side window -5- (-Arrow C-).
2. Fit seal for side window.
2.1. Slide the side window -1- up fully using the suction cups WE V.A.G 1344 -2- (-Arrow A-) while pressing the lower part towards the vehicle at the same time -Arrow B- until the seal for the side window -3- is touching the side window -1- at the outside.
Pull the sealing lip of the seal for the side window -3- forward under the side window using a plastic spatula if necessary -1-.
3. Adjust the side window.
3.1. Adjust the side window with respect to the door window by screwing the adjusting elements for the side window in and out using the adjustment tool for rear window NR.123-1. Gap dimension A: 7 mm ±1 mm. Refer to Diagram - body gap dimensions
4. Secure side window.
4.1. Tighten fastening screw -1- (-Arrow-). Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
4.2. Screw fastening nuts -2- onto the adjusting elements for the side window -3- and tighten using the adjustment tool for rear window NR.123-1 (-Arrow-). Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
Subsequent work
1. Secure rear automatic belt device at the roof frame. Refer to Removing and installing rear three-point belt.
2. Install rear roof trim panel. Refer to Removing and installing rear roof trim panel.
3. Install B-pillar trim panel. Refer to Removing and installing B-pillar trim panel.
