Removing And Installing Rear Pneumatic Spring

Removing rear pneumatic spring

Detaching wire harness on rear right pneumatic spring







1. Open rear lid.
2. Open the wiring duct -Arrow A- and take out the line -Arrow B-.

CAUTION: Incorrect handling of gas-filled shock absorbers
- Gas-filled shock absorbers can burst
- Risk of eye injuries
- Risk of bruising
- Gas-filled shock absorbers must be in idle state before removal.
- Open the lid.
- Secure the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally following removal of the gas-filled shock absorbers.
- Do not use force to open the gas-filled shock absorbers because of their high internal pressure.


1. Open the rear lid.







2. A second person should hold the rear lid to prevent it from closing accidentally.
3. Insert a screwdriver -2- between the head of the pneumatic spring and the safety clip -3- -A-.
4. Release the safety clip -3- by levering the screwdriver -2- towards the pneumatic spring -B-. The safety clip remains in the head of the pneumatic spring.
5. Pull the pneumatic spring -1- from the ball head -C-.
6. Withdraw the screwdriver.
7. Remove pneumatic spring -1-.

4. Release the safety clip -3- by levering the screwdriver -2- towards the pneumatic spring -B-. The safety clip remains in the head of the pneumatic spring.
5. Pull the pneumatic spring -1- from the ball head -C-.
6. Withdraw the screwdriver.
7. Remove pneumatic spring -1-.

1. Position pneumatic spring.







2. A second person should hold the rear lid to prevent it from closing accidentally.
3. Position pneumatic spring -1- on the ball head and press on firmly. The pneumatic spring clicks audibly into place.
4. Check that the safety clips -3- have engaged correctly; repeat procedure, if necessary.
5. Check pneumatic spring.

1. Position pneumatic spring.







2. A second person should hold the rear lid to prevent it from closing accidentally.
3. Position pneumatic spring -1- on the ball head and press on firmly. The pneumatic spring clicks audibly into place.
4. Check that the safety clips -3- have engaged correctly; repeat procedure, if necessary.
5. Check pneumatic spring.

Securing wire harness on rear right pneumatic spring







1. Place wire harness in the wiring duct -Arrow A- and close the wiring duct -Arrow B- until the locking lugs are felt to engage.







Function test on pneumatic spring

1. Open and close the lid several times to check function and assembly of the pneumatic spring.
2. Open the lid fully. The pneumatic spring must hold the lid in its open position.
3. Close the lid.
