Removing And Installing Cover For Front Backrest (Air-Conditioned Comfort Seat)

Preliminary work

INFORMATION: Drain the lumbar support before removing the front seat.

1. Remove front seat. Refer to Removing and installing front seat.
2. Mount the front seat on the assembly fixture. Refer to Mounting front seat on assembly fixture.
3. Remove cover for front middle backrest. Refer to Removing and installing front middle backrest cover (air-conditioned comfort seat).
4. Remove cover for backrest. Refer to Removing and installing cover for backrest.
5. Remove control button for backrest release at the left and right. Refer to Removing and installing control button for backrest release.

Removing cover for front backrest







1. Unscrew fastening screw -2- and remove clothes hook -1- (-arrow-).







2. Insert a plastic wedge between the cover -1- and collar -2- and unclip the collar -arrow-.







3. Press out the cover -1- on the cushion carrier -2- at the bottom left and right using a screwdriver -3- (-arrows-).







4. Press cover piping -1- at the left and right out of the backrest frame -2- (-arrows-).







5. Remove side airbag. Refer to Removing and installing side airbag.
6. Loosen the joint in the cover -1- out of the side airbag frame -2- slightly using a screwdriver -3- and pull it out with your hand all the way around -arrows-.







7. Press out the cover -1- on the cushion carrier -2- at the bottom left and right using a screwdriver -3- (-arrows A-).







8. Pull the cover -1- out of the cushion carrier -2- at the back with your hand all the way around -arrows B-.
9. Fold over cover piping -1- at the left and right side in -direction of arrow-.







10. Unclip plastic strip -2- on the cover -1- from the fixing clips -3-.







11. Remove tie-wraps -1- on the wire harness -2- at the left and right -arrow-.







12. Pull cover -1- up and out -arrows-.







Installing cover for front backrest

Installing cover for backrest

1. Pull cover -1- over and align with the contour of the padding.







2. Check fixing clips -3- and replace them if necessary.







3. Press plastic strip -2- on the cover -1- into the fixing clips -3- (-arrows-).
4. Fold over cover piping -1- at the sides in -direction of arrow-.







5. Press joint in cover -1- at the back into the cushion carrier -2- (-arrows A-) and secure by tapping gently (with a plastic hammer).







6. Engage joint in cover -1- at the bottom into the cushion carrier -2- (-arrows B-).
7. Press joint in cover -1- into the side airbag frame -2- using a plastic wedge -3- (-arrows-).







8. Install side airbag. Refer to Removing and installing side airbag.
9. Press cover piping -1- at the left and right into the backrest frame -2- (-arrows-).







10. Press in cover -1- on the cushion carrier -2- at the bottom left and right using a plastic wedge -3- (-arrows-) until it engages securely.







11. Secure wire harness -2- at the left and right with a tie-wrap -1- (-arrow-).







12. Position collar -2- on the cover -1- (-arrow-) and press in until it clicks into place.







13. Position clothes hook -1- (-arrow-) and secure with the fastening screw -2-.







Subsequent work

Removing creases in seat cover (leather)

CAUTION: Risk of damage to cover if excessive heat is applied.
- Creases in cover
- If creases have formed, only short partial warming with the hot-air gun is permissible.
- The hot-air temperature must always be 50°C.


1. If creases have formed, partially heat the affected areas of the cover with the hot-air gun and smooth out the cover using the special tool.

Checking seat following removal

1. Connect the removed seat to the vehicle's wiring harness via test cable 9745 and test cable 9745/1.
2. Connect electric plug to control module trim panel. Refer to Removing and installing control module trim panel.
3. Connect the battery. Refer to Work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
4. Switch on ignition.
5. Carry out a function check on the seat components.
6. Switch off ignition after function test and disconnect battery.
7. Disconnect test cable 9745 and test cable 9745/1.

Subsequent work

1. Install control button for backrest release at the left and right. Refer to Removing and installing control button for backrest release.
2. Install cover for backrest. Refer to Removing and installing cover for backrest.
3. Install cover for front middle backrest. Refer to Removing and installing front middle backrest cover (air-conditioned comfort seat).
4. Install the front seat. Refer to Removing and installing front seat.
