Removing rear spoiler
Removing rear spoiler (with spoiler drive intact)
1. Extend rear spoiler.
1.1. Switch on ignition.
1.2. Extend the rear spoiler -1- manually using the rocker switch.
2. Move rear spoiler into service position.
2.1. Assembly aid P 9751 -2- must be inserted in the middle between the rear lid and rear spoiler -1-.
2.2. Assembly aid P 9751 -2- must then be pumped up carefully using the tyre-inflating device V.A.G. 1225 until the gap -X- between the rear lid and rear spoiler -1- is approx. 100 mm.
3. Loosen rear spoiler on the left and right hydraulic cylinders.
3.1. The outer pipe -3- must then be turned using a socket-wrench insert P 9752 -4- until the bore -Arrow- on the outer pipe -3- is directly covering the bore on the mount -2-.
3.2. Socket-wrench insert P 9752 -4- must be inserted into the bores on the outer pipe -3- and on the mount -2-, and the mount -2- on both hydraulic cylinders must then be screwed out of the rear spoiler -1- by turning it max. 5 times in a clockwise direction.
3.3. Slowly release air out of the assembly aid P 9751 and pull assembly aid P 9751 out from between the rear lid and rear spoiler.
3.4. Screw the mount -2- on both hydraulic cylinders completely out of the rear spoiler -1- by hand and lift the rear spoiler -1- up and off.
Removing rear spoiler (with defective spoiler drive)
WARNING: Risk of injury if the emergency release mechanism of the spoiler drive on the rear spoiler is not used correctly.
- The rear spoiler is pretensioned when the assembly aid is pumped up.
- When the emergency release is actuated, the mounts move in suddenly and the rear spoiler moves up.
- Always make sure to observe the exact sequence when using the emergency release of the spoiler drive.
- When using the emergency release mechanism of the spoiler drive, the rear spoiler must be held tightly by a second person.
- Wear gloves.
INFORMATION:
- To remove the rear spoiler in the event of damage to the spoiler drive, a second person must lift the rear spoiler by hand in order to insert the assembly aid P 9751.
- The rear spoiler may only be lifted by hand if it cannot be extended manually. The rear spoiler can also be extended on one side and only the damaged side of the rear spoiler must then be lifted by hand.
1. Lift up rear spoiler.
1.1. Lift rear spoiler -1- with the help of another person.
2. Place rear spoiler in service position.
2.1. Assembly aid P 9751 -2- must be inserted in the middle between the rear lid and the rear spoiler -1-.
2.2. Assembly aid P 9751 -2- must be pumped up carefully using the tyre-inflating device V.A.G 1225 until the gap -X- between the rear lid and the rear spoiler -1- is approx. 100 mm.
3. Loosen rear spoiler at the left and right hydraulic cylinders.
3.1. Turn outer pipe -3- using the socket-wrench insert P 9752 -4- until the bore -arrow- on the outer pipe -3- is directly covering the bore on the mount -2-.
3.3. With the help of a second person, unscrew the mount -2- on both hydraulic cylinders using the socket-wrench insert P 9752 completely out of the rear spoiler -1- and lift the rear spoiler -1- up and off.
Installing rear spoiler
1. Fit rear spoiler on the left and right hydraulic cylinders.
INFORMATION: Apply Loctite 243 screw-locking compound to the first thread of the hydraulic cylinders.
1.1. Fit the rear spoiler -1- on the left and right hydraulic cylinders. Fit the two mounts -2- to the rear spoiler -1- by hand by screwing them in by at least 3 turns.
100 mm.
3. Secure rear spoiler on the left and right hydraulic cylinders.
3.1. Socket-wrench insert P 9752 -4- must be inserted into the bores on the outer pipe -3- and on the mount -2-, and the mount -2- on both hydraulic cylinders must then be screwed fully into the rear spoiler -1- and tightened as required. Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)+5 Nm (+3.5 ftlb.)
3.2. Turn outer pipe -3- using the socket-wrench insert P 9752 -4- until the bore on the mount -2- is covered by the outer pipe -3-. The bore on the outer pipe -3- must be pointing backwards in direction of travel.
3.3. Slowly release the air out of the assembly aid P 9751 and pull assembly aid P 9751 out from between the rear lid and rear spoiler.
4. Retract rear spoiler.
4.1. Switch on ignition.
4.2. Retract the rear spoiler -1- manually using the rocker switch.
Subsequent work
Checking rear spoiler
INFORMATION:
- The rear spoiler reduces the drag and, particularly at higher speeds, reduces the rear-axle lift.
- The rear spoiler extends at approx. 120 km/h (75 mph) and retracts again at approx. 80 km/h (50 mph).
1. Extend rear spoiler.
1.1. Switch on the ignition and press the button until the rear spoiler reaches its upper limit position.
1.2. Switch off ignition.
2. Check extension height of rear spoiler.
2.1. Check extension height in the centre between the lower edge of the rear spoiler -1- and the upper edge of the rear lid -2-.
Extension height on Coupe: -X= 35 mm-
Extension height on Cabriolet: -Y= 60 mm-
3. Retract rear spoiler.
3.1. Switch on the ignition and press the button until the rear spoiler reaches its lower limit position.
3.2. Switch off ignition.
