Removing and installing cylinder head
Preliminary Work
1. Remove cover for camshaft housing.
2. Remove camshaft housing.

Caution
Risk of damage due to particles of dirt.
^ Danger of material damage due to blocked oil bores/oil ducts.
- Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the engine.
- Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and make sure to cover them.
- Use the cover for dust protection when fitting the engine NR.165 on the engine assembly support.
1. Loosen cylinder head nuts.
1.1. Unscrew the twelve internal-serration screws in 1/2-turn steps in the specified sequence so as to avoid distorting the cylinder head.

2. Lift the cylinder head straight up and off.
Installing cylinder head

^ Danger of material damage due to blocked oil bores/oil ducts.
- Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the engine.
- Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and make sure to cover them.
- Use the cover for dust protection when fitting the engine NR.165 on the engine assembly support.
1. Replace cylinder-head gasket. The TOP marking must be clearly visible.

2. Slide the cylinder head evenly over the studs from above. When doing so, make sure that the sealing surface is not damaged.
3. Coat the sealing surface of the multiple-tooth nuts lightly with oil.
3.1. Fit twelve M12 multiple-tooth nuts and washers.
4. Tighten multiple-tooth nuts on the cylinder head according to the specified tightening torque (see table below) and sequence.

Subsequent Work
1. Install camshaft housing.
2. Install cover for camshaft housing.
